#UPDATE: Authorities say there is currently nothing indicating criminal liability in the deadly Polk County school bus crash. Investigators say 23-year-old Maria Gimenez was driving a white Malibu when she crossed the center line, setting off a chain reaction that resulted in a head-on crash involving a school bus... and a Jeep. The driver of the Jeep, 26-year-old Deshawn Smith, was killed. The student who was killed on the school bus was identified as Adena Luis Prito Hyola, a 10th-grade student at Winter Haven High School. The spelling of the student's name has not yet been independently confirmed. Gimenez was treated and released from the hospital. She fully cooperated with investigators, provided her cellphone, gave an interview and submitted to a voluntary blood draw. She told investigators she does not remember what happened. The school bus driver, 34-year-old Jessica Dy, was determined to be NOT at fault. Investigators say she was in her lane, traveling below the speed limit and immediately went to help the children after she was able to get out of the wreckage. There were 37 students, the driver and the driver's child on the bus — 39 people total. Fire and EMS transported 35 people to four hospitals. Three remain hospitalized and are expected to make a full recovery. The investigation is continuing, but authorities say there is currently nothing showing criminal liability. RIP 🙏show more
