There are plenty of Vets saying that they served for that young man's right to sit. Freedom of speech and expression. If someone chooses not to stand for the anthem or pledge, that’s their constitutional right. I would have press charges and have him escorted out, toddler need a lesson

He apologized because he found out a lot of people saw this. He won't change.

@dthutc That doesn't matter. As an older person, he should know better and dont put your fuckin hands on me. He would have gone to jail.

He's a fascist prick who deserved a punch in the face instead of a cold beer

@PointsNorthe Naw, fuck this guy. Apologized because he got embarrassed, but this is who he is. Younger man comes off looking worse and worse the more comes out. Bought him a beer? You should have punched him in his stupid fucking boomer face.

FUCK his apology

Vet here, I would have put the old guy in check and reminded him of his oath. The hypocrisy of his excuse as to why he assaulted the man sitting, makes those of us who understood the oath look bad. Also, using being a vet as an excuse for bad behavior is unacceptable.

So assault is ok if you apologize? In-fuckin-credible!

I must be getting really old. My tolerance for apologies is gone.

The kind of apology that gives you permission to do it again?

@clalter59 Some Boomers are out of control. Good on the kid for being forgiving and respecting his elders, even if they’re in the wrong.

Kudos to the kid for being the bigger man. He shouldn’t have had to explain his beliefs to anyone. You don’t put your hands on another being.

It's still assault and the old dude should have gone to jail.

I think he apologized only because it went viral.

I’m a US Army combat veteran and nobody has the right to physically assault or threaten anyone over standing, sitting or kneeling over the National Anthem. Stupidity and ignorance doesn’t look at military service history.

I hope the Cubs banned Bob for life. The reason he hit the young man doesn't matter. The fact that he apologized and made amends doesn't matter. The fact of the matter is that old man committed assault. That shouldn't go unpunished.

Being a veteran is no excuse for battery just like being a cop is no excuse, being a plumber is not an excuse, etc. Do way better and get the help you need because you are only lucky this country is so wrapped up in theatrical patriotism w/ veterans that you weren't beaten silly!

"Emotional Vietnam Vet" is not a valid excuse to put his hands on anyone. Regardless of the friendly outcome, he should've been escorted out & charged.

1. As I have said a million times but every cop procedural show gets wrong and all you think it is right: WHETHER THE CITIZEN WANTS TO "PRESS CHARGES" IS IRRELEVANT. THE DA'S OFFICE MAKES THAT DECISION. 2. Fuck Bob.

My dad was a Korean War vet. My son served. They served for the right to stand up, or sit down. Not for some entitled ass joke to smack someone. He needs to go to jail

He should still be charged. That is a man with no self control. His family is probably all too familiar with his violence.

He was only able to have the conversation bc he did what the guy said to do. If he had stayed seated (his right) it would've ended differently. This is saying that u can have a "grown up" conversation and make it a great learning moment.. as long as u do what they say first.

F that guy. Don't touch someone else. Bob is mad because he went viral. The anthem is for ALL Americans. Whenever this nonsense about it being only for the troops started (flyovers, etc), everyone lost grasp that it's for ALL Americans

nah fuck that. the old man either needed his ass kicked then and there, or you charge him with assault so he gets fined. fuck his dumbass vet apology. he only apologized bc he got caught on film. if there wasn’t video evidence he wouldn’t have the same reaction, guaranteed.

That young man showed more class and restraint during the video and apparently that continued as the two men had their conversations. I get that a vet got emotional but his status is no reason to demand someone stand for the anthem and definitely no reason to slap someone.

Reading theses comments tells me that none of you listened & took anything from these two men's experience. And that's sad for y'all. I listened. It was a good lesson from one generation to the other.

The whites men in the comment section don’t want his to press charges because they never have to be held accountable for misunderstandings. Black ppl lose their lives or get put in jail for shit like this.

People need to understand, being disappointed in your government and protesting in whatever way you choose. Sitting for the national anthem is protected by the constitution. And it is NOT reflective of how someone feels about service members or the country as a whole.

.@TizzyEnt Those people choose violence & think "My bad, I was having a rough day" = complete immunity - F that. Behavior only changes when pain of not changing exceeds pain of change. - We need to increase the pain & consequences of being an a-hole

Fuck an apology, bet he wouldn’t have done that if it wasn’t some scrawny dude sitting down and exercising his first amendment right

The only reason this had a “good outcome” is because the younger man stayed emotionally regulated during a heated situation. Bravo to him. That older man could learn a thing or two.

So the young man who has been on this Earth a lot shorter amount of time had more sensibility, maturity, and emotional control than the triggered old man who has been on this planet for many decades? This just makes the young guy look the good guy and the old guy a lot worse...

I don't care that he's a veteran, slapping a guy is never permissible.......

I still think guy should be charged. And banned from the park. Needs to be on the record in case he “gets too emotional” again. Not saying he deserves jail time. Maybe an anger management class

Vet or not do not strike people. Flight or fight is so high in this country from ICE terrorizing people and idiot magas stepping over the line thinking it's okay. It's not. Use your damn words before your fists we were taught this as kids.
