Got stuck in KC a few weeks back. Southwest held us on the tarmac for 2 hours and cancelled my flight at 11 pm. Had to find a hotel in single digit weather.

They have my bags. I would have done that had I assumed flying was more unreliable than it's ever been. Guess that's the lesson.

BTW. as a nation one thing that could solve this is a decent high speed rail system. Let's say, and I don't know this but if my geography is correct, it's 12 hours from BNA to AUS driving. What if you could do 6 hours on a train? I know travelling in Europe, that's the way to go! You rarely fly from say Paris to Vienna. There are solutions. Will we rise up and demand them.

This is why I pack with triple redundancy. Essentials like meds, my contact lenses and clean underwear in my personal item. A couple days of clean clothing and other toiletries in my carry-on snd the rest goes in my main luggage. My logic is that if I try to board and they force me to check my carry-on, I can survive with what is in my personal item (small bag).

Sister just had similar issue. Got contacted yesterday with an offer for a $30 voucher to reschedule her flight because they overbooked. She didn't have that luxury because it was a work trip. They ended up canceling the flight but the same flight number departed to a different destination entirely. I had an issue two weeks ago flying into Reno where the plane was descending and close to landing, next thing I know the plane stays climbing and the pilot comes on the PA saying that a plane was on the tarmac and so they had to abort landing and circle back around. And all our airports are teeming with foreigners now.

I hate to say but the strictness of my and the older generation had a purpose. Now people wanted less education, less regulation and now too many stupid asses in important positions. Sorry not sorry. Careful what you ask for.

According to the FAA, there were control tower staffing shortages, accompanied with severe weather in TX. The shortages in staff led to a complete ground stop at BNA. I don’t know if you’ve looked at Radar, but the storms coming into Austin are pretty wild.

You answered your own question. If a flight is not full enough, they're not going to waste the jet fuel. There's a real fear that there's going to be a jet fuel shortage soon. Ugh, get the guy you voted for to end this war already. He's going to have to make concessions.

Pretty bad storms in Texas and went through Austin was why the flight was cancelled. That said, flying has been getting worse and worse. You're in the airport. Look around. We're becoming the third world with all the third world problems. It's going to get worse.

If there are no direct non stop flights tomorrow morning, look up which hubs have the most flights to Austin tomorrow. I’m thinking DFW or Houston. I was raised an airline brat. I know how to get around when things go wrong. You have to research and think for yourself always.

The last time I flew, our flight was at 7pm. All of a suddden our departure flight disappeares. They tell us they now have to find a plane. Long story short we sat in the airport for hours with no answers then finally departed at midnight. Never flying again
