The last 24 hours in the Strait of Hormuz are a doozy. At the start of the clip, you will see many of the vessels that were going through the Oman route take the Iran route instead. Now there's something I should probably point out. In the last week or so, US escorts through the Oman lane typically saw VLCCs transit out; that was not the case this time. In addition, US transits typically show a cluster of ships moving together, which was not the case here either. Basically, I'm just saying it doesn't look like a typical US escort. But it was also interesting that some of the vessels were able to leave right away via the Iran route, while others turned back. I'm not entirely sure what's going on. Visible AIS data-wise, there were no other escorts that took place. Inbound VLCCs were zero today for the first time since the MOU was signed. I will need to check the satellite data tomorrow, but I'm sure some went in; we just don't know right now. What's clear, however, is that the Oman route will be heavily contested in the coming days. Any assumption of normality in the Strait of Hormuz is wishful thinking. Here is the video from MarineTraffic and I've included the table of inbound tankers.

Today, I officially turn 40. That’s four decades of wisdom, growth, and—let’s be honest—a few questionable life choices. But here I am, celebrating with the one person who has truly been with me through it all… my reflection. In this picture, you see two men. But don’t be fooled—it’s just me and my mirror, having a deep heart-to-heart. “We made it,” I tell myself, raising a glass. My reflection nods, clearly proud. “And somehow, we still look this good.” People say 40 is when life really begins. I’m not sure what that means, but if it involves more moments like this—laughing, reflecting, and enjoying the simple things—I’m all for it. So, here’s to me, to 40, and to all the good times ahead. If you see me talking to myself, just know it’s a very important meeting. 🤷‍♂️

Strait of Hormuz over the last 24 hours: calm before the storm. Following yesterday's escort, there was nothing today. Traffic visibly dropped. Two months ago I verified that not only did we have a replacement implant, but we have multiple or replacement implants, waiting for my eminent need to replace this expander. Fast-forward to Monday, and magically, I was put on a one week waitlist, basically. I’ve been told all sorts of things. What I haven’t been told is, “we will have your device shipped out this evening”… that has made it impossible to set an actual surgery date. I surmise Dr. John Baeke is behind it. Luckily I don’t have to ever see Dr. Baeke again. Him and Dr. Revis belong in the same pig pen. Crossing my fingers that all goes well hopefully next week. $BREAKING: The ceasefire just ate itself. The Head of Iran’s Parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee just stated: after the Israeli aggression on Lebanon, all plans to open the Strait of Hormuz must immediately cease until there are assurances that Lebanon is included in the ceasefire. There is either a ceasefire on all fronts, or a ceasefire nowhere at all. The entire premise of the deal was Hormuz reopening. Trump’s condition was complete, immediate, and safe opening of the strait. Iran accepted. The ceasefire was built on that single exchange: pause the bombs, open the water. Brent crashed 13 percent. I built a clone of the Yeezy store with Next.js. This was a fun challenge — the site has some smooth animations and feels very fast. But it was bothering me that I couldn't use the browser back button. Can we do better? So I rebuilt the site with v0 and Motion. Here's how it works: 1. When you click on a product, Motion is able to animate the original position of the product in the grid, to the zoomed in product detail page. 2. During this transition, we also shallow update the URL with the `/p/slug` route for the page. 3. If you press the back button in the navbar, or use the browser back button, or press escape — all options will take you back to the main product listing page. 4. If you reload the page while looking at a product, or someone sends you a link to a specific product, it still works! This is the best parts of a SPA and MPA mixed together. In the future, I can make this even better with View Transitions (I wasn't able to get the product animation just right, but if you can I'd love to see it!). I also took some creative liberties from the original design. The whole 1/2/3 size thing, where you needed to click the "?" to see SM/MD/LG was strange, so I just went directly to those sizes. Similarly, I prefered the more traditional style sheet/modal with the background color change, versus the full screen takeover. If you wanted to actually hook this up to Shopify now, you can swap the cart implementation with Next.js Commerce, which has all the APIs you need + optimistic writes 🔥 Should I make a video walking through the code?
