Then a cop standing behind him says, “Yeah… but mine were all headshots.” And that comment exposes one of the biggest misunderstandings people have about self-defense shooting. We should never blame an entire religion for the actions of extremist groups. The holy book of Quran is very clear ‘Whoever kills an innocent person, it is as if he has killed all of humanity.’ (5:32) The threat we are facing is not Islam or Muslims. It is violent extremist groups that hijack religion to justify terror. These groups target civilians, women, minorities, and very often Muslims themselves. The Prophet Muhammad also forbade the killing of civilians. So these terrorists are not defending Islam. They are violating it. But we also cannot ignore the reality that this ideology spreads across borders and online and leads to real violence. So action matters. We need strong intelligence sharing, serious online counter radicalization, and firm law enforcement against extremist networks. We must hold state sponsors of terrorism accountable, secure our borders, and protect free speech so extremists can be exposed, not ignored. Protecting innocent lives while respecting religious freedom is not a contradiction. It is how free societies defeat violent extremism.
