RESCUED: Marcello the Parsons Terrier, who almost died this week after crazy laws stopped him being rescued for two days. Stephen Smith from Bleasby, Newark was walking his two dogs on Monday when they both ran off. One came back, but Marcello had found his way into a badger sett. Stephen could hear him barking from the sett but couldn't reach him. Seeking help from the fire brigade and others he discovered it could be a CRIME to dig the poor pup out. Apparently, he needed a special license from Natural England (a government quango) to even attempt a rescue. He applied to the body but was getting nowhere – hearing literally nothing as his dog was trapped. Thankfully, he got in touch with me. My office was straight onto them, and finally they answered. Once the emergency license was approved, Notts Fire & Rescue, supervised by the police, could finally go in to save him. They were absolutely brilliant, as you can see from the video! Poor Marcello had been there for 48 hours without water, food, or light, but he was OK. I'm so glad Marcello is home and happy, but these laws seem mad to me. I'm going to try to lay an amendment to the Badger Act in Parliament in the Autumn to make clear that the Fire Brigade can save dogs and pets if they ever get trapped underground. Perhaps we can call it Marcello's Law!

So what’s up with Trump? Trump is only two things, and both have been proven to be an absolute disaster for the country. He is stupid, and he is a narcissist. Let’s prove this. Trump is a silver-spooned child who never read a book, and whose only interests for the longest time were women and superficial pursuits. That’s it. This is a man with no morals a man who cheated on both wives and failed in multiple businesses in almost Failproof condition set up by his father and now he is using the presidency to secure Gaza real estate for himself and his son in law. This is a guy who had the best team, MTG, Massie, Elon, Vivek, Joe Kent, Tucker, Charlie, Candace and even Megyn kelly, all of them supported him and literally helped put him in power. If Trump thinks he won on his own, he needs a reality check. He won because of those people. He won because he said there would be no more wars and that people like Lindsey Graham (the swamp) wouldn’t be anywhere near decision-making. The harsh critics of him and the same people who tried to kill him, are his closest allies today. And this complete idiot has managed to push out every sane voice around him. Every single one. Elon got close to auditing Pentagon and was effectively sidelined. He was offended, his business was impacted by Trump’s decisions and although he tried to make peace, he is nowhere near Trump’s inner circle anymore. Vivek was pushed out right away. Then Candace. Then Charlie was effectively silenced by a bullet in his neck and instead of demanding answers pushing his own FBI guy for transparency, demanding names, autopsy reports, and full details Trump did nothing! So here’s my New Year’s resolution for 2026, AMP UP THE TRUTH. Over the course of this month you’re going to see an expansion of all the hard work that went into the Truth Matters Project in 2025, including a parallel project called ‘The Battle for Britain’, I’m opening up a second front to fight the cancer the U.S. is exporting to the UK and Britain. 2026 marks a push that will I hope make a difference in what I believe will be the most consequential year in geopolitics in modern history. It makes me feel tired just to think about what’s ahead, but I’m all in. It’s time for those being extorted by Trump to fight back with a smarter more sustainable response. Listen to Scott Galloway here, he’s so right. It’s time for America to understand the words of Joni Mitchell, “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone’ What I would point out to Republicans is this. Trump is a dead man walking. All this bullshit about ‘We support Trump’ is frankly a joke, you can’t support a corpse and that’s where this is going. Jagdeep was 'Gayab' after resigning (reportedly for conspiring against Modi Sarkar) & then popped up suddenly for a faltu book launch 'Hum Aur Yah Vishwa’. Intrigued by this I checked author & everything started falling in place. Author is Manmohan Vaidya, Joint Gen Sec of RSS...most influential post after RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat. Manmohan Vaidya has interesting track record. PM Modi Ji was declared BJP's PM Candidate on 12 Sept 2013. But Vaidya was already feeling too bad about it since long time before that. Some of his interesting statements👇 -"The Sangh is not in favour of any personality cult. BJP should decide its leader through consensus, not by promoting individuals." -"BJP should not name a prime ministerial candidate prematurely and that the victory in Gujarat was a collective effort, not just about an individual." -"To discuss BJP's prime ministerial candidate after Gujarat assembly elections is both premature and irrelevant. Gujarat assembly elections weren't fought for this purpose." -"Modi is only one among the many prime ministerial candidates in the BJP." -"Gujarat chief minister's candidature would work to the advantage of BJP's rivals." Interestingly, some of these statements were made during September 7-9, 2013 to be specific. Before 12 Sept 2013, there was also a meeting held b/w RSS & BJP after 'some' BJP leaders who didn't want Modi Ji’s name to be declared as PM Candidate, went to RSS for intervention. Manmohan Vaidya was more than enthusiastic to issue a statement that time too. “This meeting was not held to take a decision [on the PM candidate]. I will not say this here.” (When pressed on Modi specifically.) He added that the RSS had shared its "feelings" but left the call to the BJP. Fortunately, BJP took the 'right' call & Modi Ji was declared as PM candidate DEFYING 'Suggestions' from RSS. We must always remain indebted to late-Arun Jaitley Sir, Rajnath Singh Ji & late-Manohar Parrikar Ji for making this possible and change Bharat's destiny forever. But Manmohan Vaidya didn't seem to be very happy even after BJP winning LS with full majority on its own & continued making statements which could hurt BJP. Everyone knows 'road to Delhi' passes through UP. Winning UP Assembly in 2017 was of utmost importance for BJP before 2019 LS Elections and Manmohan Vaidya strikes again...Vaidya kicked up a controversy by suggesting a review of the reservation policy just before Assembly Election. That one statement was enough to wipe out BJP from UP forever (it wasn't in power in UP since 25 yrs already) & with it 2019 LS also. But fortunately, BJP worked in overdrive to clear the confusion. Mounting pressure forced Vaidya to issue clarification. Hats off to UP RSS unit which knew importance & desperation to win UP. Add to it meticulous planning of Amit Shah Ji & BJP stormed to power with Brute Majority to open roads for 2019 LS also. So Jagdeep attending book launch of 'this' person solved a big puzzle. And...inspite of working so hard, Vaidya has not been able to get his 'favourite' person in PM's Chair. Ps- I'm not denying RSS's contribution to Nation & Society. It is still the most dedicated orgañ to Society & Nation. Ideology hasn't changed, but people have. And sadly...people run orgñ. RSS is the same, Maybe people running it are not! RSS devouts will not like me writing this & will come pouncing on me. But I can see from a neutral PoV what a RSS affiliate can't, because.... I'm neither from RSS or BJP....I'm devoted ONLY & ONLY to Modi-Shah Ji & 'that's why' to BJP. So any criticism can't stop me from writing my opinion.

A support that was later acknowledged by Prince Louis when he wrote on his christmas card: "Thank you to Grannie and Grandpa for playing games with me"❤️ Ultimately, as humans we all face, sooner or later, our own "annus Horribilis". What I saw at the Tommy Robinson hearing today Today Tommy Robinson (Tommy Robinson 🇬🇧) had a hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice. The judge was Martin Chamberlain. The question at hand was this: are Tommy’s prison conditions dire enough that he needs an expedited hearing to review how the prison is treating him? As in: are things so bad that the courts need to move very quickly to review things — as opposed to their normal, slow pace? On Tommy’s team was prison lawyer Sara Watson and a barrister named Alisdair Williamson, KC. (Williamson was Tommy’s successful lawyer last year, when the Metropolitan Police tried to ban Tommy from going into the city of London. He’s really good.) On the other side was a battery of government lawyers — I counted four, led by Tom Cross, KC. Just stop for a moment to think about that: the UK government hired FOUR lawyers, at taxpayers expense, to fight against Tommy Robinson’s request to have an expediting hearing to review his atrocious treatment in prison. They probably spent more than £150,000 of tax dollars just on today’s battle. (Imagine if Keir Starmer put that much energy and effort into fighting real crime in the UK.) It’s not justice. It’s a vendetta. I’ve attended a lot of trials for Tommy over the years; he’s won some and he’s lost some. But this one felt good. Tommy’s team had a report from an expert psychologist who went to prison to examine Tommy. She found that, being kept in a small cell 21 hours a day, for more than 140 days, has induced a kind of PTSD in Tommy. The government didn’t even try to contradict those findings. They did, however, try to say that Tommy had all the privileges he could ask for, including visits, phone calls, a computer, TV and the like. But as the government lawyer was saying that, Tommy — who was on a video link from prison — started waving his hands, signalling to the judge that he had something to say. The judge stopped the proceedings and invited Williamson to phone Tommy to see what the fuss was about. The court took a half hour break. And then something incredible happened. The government lawyer had just been bragging about how luxurious Tommy’s treatment was — including how many phone calls he could make. But when the court resumed, Tommy held up a sign to the video camera in his prison video room. And on it, he wrote that the prison had cut off the phone call in the middle of his conversation with Williamson! The judge saw that note and asked what happened. And indeed it was true: literally in the middle of Tommy’s conversation with Williamson, the bullies at the prison cut off the phone call, as they have done to him so many times before. As Williamson said to the judge, the one act of misconduct that the entire court witnessed proved that when it came to Tommy, there’s a big difference between what the prison says and what the prison does. The judge was angry — remember, it was he who had asked Williamson to consult with Tommy; it was an important part of the hearing, to make sure the judge had all the facts. The bullies at the prison weren’t just messing around with Tommy this time; they were messing around with a judge. The judge tore a strip off the government lawyer, and had a one-hour break for Tommy to talk to his lawyers properly. When we all resumed, the judge said the prison’s shenanigans had delayed things so much, the judge wasn’t ready to release his ruling today — he’ll do that tomorrow. What a note to end on. I’m not saying it’s a sure thing that Tommy is going to win. But it couldn’t have been a clearer illustration of how the prison casually abuses Tommy, and gaslights him about it. Except this time, they didn’t seem to realize they were fighting with the judge, too. It was quite a dramatic moment. I spoke to Williamson after the hearing, and he says he’ll share the ruling with me tomorrow when the judge releases it — I’ll make sure to send you an email with the results as soon as I can. What a day. I’m on my way back to Canada now, but I’m very glad I came. My live-tweeting had millions of views today from around the world — a lot of people are interested in Tommy’s case. There were a few journalists there from the mainstream media, including a few real Tommy-haters. I recognized one of them from the BBC. So it feels great knowing that my tweets and videos will have far more viewers than their anti-Tommy propaganda. I’m so glad I came! My flight from Canada was seven hours each way, plus the taxi ride in from Heathrow was another hour each way. That’s a sixteen-hour round-trip journey, for just a few hours in court. My flight from Canada was seven hours each way, plus the taxi ride in from Heathrow was another hour each way. That’s a sixteen-hour round-trip journey, for just a few hours in court. This weekend sees the last ever episode of Football Focus broadcast on the BBC. One of my colleagues sent me this earlier this week. A montage of some of the stuff we did on the show and it brought back so many lovely memories ❤️ I can tell you exact spot where I was standing on the old runway at Turnberry golf club when I got the call to see if I wanted to become the presenter of Football Focus. I was covering The Open in 2009 and it was one of the best conversations I have ever had. For a kid who had grown up watching the show every week with my dad it was an amazing privilege to know that I would be hosting a programme which had always been such a big part of my weekend. I called my dad immediately and he was just as pleased as I was. When the news was announced I had a phone call from the one and only Bob Wilson. He was so warm and encouraging, as he always is, and said “Dan, you are gonna love this job. There is nothing like it… make sure you take care of it”. I hope I did. As a former custodian of the couch, Bob knew how special it was and I felt the same way when I handed over the reins to the brilliant Alex Scott when I left Focus after 12 seasons. People still talk to me about the show all the time. Focus is stitched into my life and I know there are still so many fans who really care about it which is why it’s such a crazy decision to get rid of it. Move it to Saturday morning, tinker with the format but, in a world where there is such a premium on reliable and trusted brands, why would you throw away over 50 years of hard work and history? It carries weight. I remember interviewing Pele years ago and I told him I was from Football Focus and he said “I know all about Football Focus” with a big smile. When we were filming a show about the history of Barcelona at the Nou Camp we were about to sit down to talk to Eusebio and Johan Cryuff (I had to pinch myself about that one) and Sir Bobby Charlton walked over and said to them, “You can tell this is important gentlemen… the team from Football Focus are here”. When I called Noel Gallagher to talk about an idea we had to get him to interview Mario Ballotelli at Manchester City he rearranged his world tour to be there. Obviously Balotelli was a draw but Noel said “I’d do anything for Football Focus”. When I interviewed Jurgen Klopp in the tearoom at Exeter City before an FA cup tie the lovely ladies serving brews were wedged into the corner while we spoke. I introduced them to Mr Klopp afterwards and he apologised for stealing their space; “Don’t worry about that” they said. “We’ve just been on Football Focus! Wait until we tell the family about this!”. I know the game has changed and the way we consume it has changed but there is still an audience there if you find the right place for it, promote it, ‘take care of it’ and give fans the chance to be part of the conversation on an informed, thoughtful and entertaining show about the sport we all love. I am gutted it’s going but also so thankful for all the amazing people I got to work with over the years. They remain life-long friends and I still can’t quite believe I got to sit alongside the people I grew up watching play the game at the highest level. I remember when Alan Shearer called me “Dan” on one of the first shows I worked on. The little kid inside me thought “Alan Shearer knows my name!”. It was a pleasure to work with so many brilliant pundits and it was great to watch Alex develop on Focus and then go on to host the programme so well. It always takes me a little time to absorb the events of the day before adding new commentary. There’s no question, Friday’s events took some absorbing for sure. I’ve watched the entire clip of the ‘Ambush in the Oval’ a few times and it is beyond doubt, it was a staged event in which it had been decided, the best leverage could be had by publicly humiliating Zelensky in front of the world’s media. Once you take a closer look at the staging, it becomes very clear who this event was being staged for. Among the hand-picked pool of reporters for the Oval Office presser, was an interesting addition. A correspondent for TASS, the Russian state media organization. It’s worthy of note that AP and Reuters were deliberately excluded. The White House later claimed this was an error and the reporter was eventually asked to leave. In addition, there was a plant in the room. The boyfriend of Marjorie Taylor Green, Brian Glenn. He reports for fringe conservative site ‘Real America's Voice’. This was the guy who asked Zelensky "Why don't you wear a suit? You're the highest level in this country's office, and you refuse to wear a suit”, adding “Do you own a suit” JD Vance openly laughed as the question was posed. Zelenskyy’s polite response? "I will wear a suit after this war is over. Maybe something like yours. Maybe better." It was a vacuous question asked in order to tee up Vance for his disgusting demand that Zelenskyy show gratitude to the man who had run a campaign on not providing a cent in military aid to Ukraine. The current Kremlin talking points are that Zelenskyy should step down. We saw this being echoed by the likes of Lyndsay Graham and other right wing talking heads. Effectively, the hard right is doing the bidding of the Kremlin propaganda machine, in an attempt to do what Russia has not been able to do since day one of the invasion. Remove Zelenskyy from the chess board. In addition, they’re running a bogus impeachment narrative, using the line “Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Dubinsky just called for an Emergency Session of Ukraine’s Parliament to initiate IMPEACHMENT” For context, Dubinsky is a suspect in a number of criminal cases related to corruption and treason. He was charged with document forgery in August 2023 after he allegedly travelled abroad under a false pretext. In addition, the US had sanctioned him in 2021, alleging ties to a Russian influence network and interference in the 2020 US election. I think it safe to say, he is of dubious character. This impeachment narrative is already on this platform being circulated by MAGA accounts. As they say, "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes". Replacing Zelenskyy is now a top priority for the Kremlin. Therefore, it’s a top priority for the U.S. administration. Think about that for a moment and let it sink in. Trump allies are now actively using Kremlin talking points to unseat the Democratically elected president of a sovereign nation. Sound familiar? Zelenskyy is clearly exhausted. This is a man whose country is under siege not only from Russian aggression, but from a proxy Russian campaign run from inside the White House, to undermine his authority. The pressure must be off the chart. Let’s be clear, all Zelenskyy did was stand up for his people against an international criminal extortion gang, attempting to strip an ally of its mineral rights. I have said all week he should not sign the agreement and he was right not to do so. Now the real challenge begins. The good news for Zelenskyy is, he is now among friends as he found when he landed in London last night.

And Britain did not sail alone: a Dutch squadron joined him, under Vice-Admiral van Capellen. British and Dutch, sailing as one force. 💥 August 1816. The combined fleet stood off the walls of Algiers. Exmouth sent his terms in. The Dey refused. At half past two, the guns opened fire. For nine hours, British and Dutch guns hammered the harbour defences. The corsair fleet in harbour was destroyed at anchor. Allied casualties, British and Dutch together, passed 900 killed and wounded. It was a hard fight, not an easy one. By morning the defences lay silent. Exmouth demanded surrender. This is Apollo. This story still stings. I returned from a tour in Iraq in early 2015. My wife was pregnant with our first son. I knew I would not be going anywhere for several months, unless there was a dire need. We decided the time was right to get a dog to add to our growing family. I don't remember how we found Apollo. We got him from the shelter, but I don't know if Dolly saw him online or if we just stumbled across him. I was struck by his amazing eyes. I'd had an Australian Shepherd before and I knew it was a breed that I loved. He hopped right in my car. Dolly even took the back seat so I could sit next to my new best friend. Together, we brought him to his new home. What a great dog he was. We immediately became tied at the hip. I took him for walks, runs, and hikes off leash. I put in the time to train him; we would walk to the bakery or the butcher shop (at the time, we lived the town life), tell him to sit outside, and he would be there on the sidewalk still sitting here when we came out. It was wonderful having such a happy and well-trained dog. Everybody loved him. They'd never seen a dog with eyes like his. I'm sure he loved all the attention too. My first concern came with my newborn son. He did not do as well with children as I would have liked. At times, he gave him a sideways glance that I didn't like. I kept an eye on him as best I could when he was around my son, but he had given me no reason not to trust him, so I didn't worry much. He was wonderful in every other way. Then, suddenly, he wasn't. We had a notary over to collect signatures from us so we could close on a refinance of our home. After sitting at our dining room table for about an hour, signing papers, the notary rose to leave. Apollo, who had been sitting at my feet, must have been startled by the sudden movement. Like a bolt of lightning, he bit. Just once, but it was a shock. The notary was a real mensch. He didn't get angry. He showed humanity. He knew that we would never have had Apollo unrestrained if we had had any idea that he would do something like that. If only everyone was so understanding as he. But fear crept into my heart that there was something about my dog that was not compatible with the family life that we had. We kept Apollo on a shorter leash after that, both figuratively and literally. The off leash hikes were a thing of the past, but we hoped this would prove to be just a one-off anomaly. It wasn't. A month and a half later, just days out from another deployment, I was sitting in my living room talking to a very good friend, a Master Gunnery Sergeant in the USMC (who, as an aside, donated $1,000 to our GiveSendGo campaign to #SaveLucy, thank you 🙏). Apollo was familiar with him already, so I was off my guard, and didn't notice Apollo giving him the stinkeye until it was too late. Apollo lunged and bit. He immediately backed off, but the horrid realization came to me at that moment that my fears were true. My options were limited on the eve of a deployment. To socialize Apollo and train this behavior out of him would take time. I didn't have time. We also didn't have family in the area and Dolly was pregnant again. I couldn't leave my pregnant wife alone for the duration of my tour with a dog who had shown a tendency to bite. I couldn't turn a blind eye to the sideways look he occasionally gave my infant son. Not anymore. I made the devastating decision to rehome him. On what I knew would be our final ride together, he hopped right into the front seat and looked at me, tongue dangling out of his mouth in a happy, sloppy pant, his nub of a tail bobbing up and down, wondering what wonderful adventure daddy was taking him on this time. I'm sure he was confident it was going to be a great time no matter what. It felt like betrayal to me. When we reached the shelter, he faithfully followed me in. We sat in a corner. He leaned against my legs and I stroked his head one final time. It felt like we sat there forever, but I didn't mind. I would have been happy for time to stop, to stay in that moment, just me and my dog, stripped of all externalities, for eternity. But time didn't stop. At length, the door opened and a lady entered. Apollo pressed in against my shins. His 40 pound weight felt heavy. Crushing. I gave him one last embrace, then closed my eyes. "That's a good boy," I whispered, though I couldn't bring myself to look. "I'll always love you." She took Apollo and led him through the door, never for me to see him again. Even today, when I close my eyes, I can still feel the weight of his warm body pressing against mine, trusting me to keep him safe. That was as hard a thing as I've ever done in my life. It was a no-kill shelter, but I played things close to the chest. I did not tell them the worst details. I only mentioned my fear of possible aggression against my child while I was deployed. I did not want to jeopardize Apollo's chance at another opportunity. For months, I kept checking the shelter's website for information about him, but I never saw an update. I do not know what became of him, sadly. I got back home and Dolly asked me where Apollo was. I don't remember if I said anything. I was numb. I hadn't told her where I was going or what I was doing. I had not wanted anything to change my mind. I knew my heart wasn't in it, but I wasn't going to be stopped. It was the right thing to do for my wife, son, and community. Her tears flowed when she realized what I had done. She also loved Apollo. I went to lay on the bed upstairs and be alone. Just weeks later, in a mudhole in the desert, I met my sweet Lucy and my heart began to heal. Saving her from that war zone helped me deal with the lingering guilt I felt about Apollo. I continue to feel the sting of that experience. I wouldn't change what I did though. I love dogs. I will always stand up for dogs when they are mistreated. I will adopt unwanted dogs when I am able. A great measure of a man is how he treats dogs. I aim to always pass that test. But I will always defend human life. Only humans are made in the image of God. I hope and pray that God has a place for dogs when this life is over, but humans He created with souls destined for glory. "You have never talked to a mere mortal," CS Lewis explained. "Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations - these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendors." I completely agree. I love dogs. They have no guile in them, no duplicity. A dog will not tell you a lie. I like them better than I like people, often. But I cannot choose a dog over a life that was uniquely created to glorify the Almighty (Isaiah 43:7). I will always protect human life. That is why I served. That is why I deployed several times. To protect people, even when they didn't realize they needed protecting. I failed once. I received a report about a plot to blow up a bomb in Beirut. I got it out with all the speed and precision I could, but it got bogged down by the sideshow of the editing process for hours. I got distracted and didn't follow up on it aggressively. In the end, I'm sure the bureaucrats in their cubicles transliterated the names correctly. I'm sure they crossed every T and dotted every I. But at a price. A devastating price. I woke up the next morning to read in the news that a bomb had gone off in Beirut. It was carried out by the people my report said would carry it out. It took place in the exact locale I said it would take place. 43 people dead. Hundreds wounded. Families shattered. I didn't know these people, but my heart sank. Human life is sacred. I will always work to defend it. If I can save a few dogs along the way, great. That is also the Lord's work. But I will never keep a dog that is a danger to my neighbors. Whatever their sins, their harassment, libel, and cunning deceits, they are made in the image of God with souls destined for eternity. Lucy, my 11-year-old dog that survived ISIS, is no danger to my them. I know it in my very bones. The Mountains Have Eyes said that the DA told him I was not a responsible dog owner when he called to inquire about Lucy. My first concern came with my newborn son. He did not do as well with children as I would have liked. At times, he gave him a sideways glance that I didn't like. I kept an eye on him as best I could when he was around my son, but he had given me no reason not to trust him, so I didn't worry much. He was wonderful in every other way. Then, suddenly, he wasn't. We had a notary over to collect signatures from us so we could close on a refinance of our home. After sitting at our dining room table for about an hour, signing papers, the notary rose to leave. Apollo, who had been sitting at my feet, must have been startled by the sudden movement. Like a bolt of lightning, he bit. Just once, but it was a shock. The notary was a real mensch. He didn't get angry. He showed humanity. He knew that we would never have had Apollo unrestrained if we had had any idea that he would do something like that. If only everyone was so understanding as he. But fear crept into my heart that there was something about my dog that was not compatible with the family life that we had. We kept Apollo on a shorter leash after that, both figuratively and literally. The off leash hikes were a thing of the past, but we hoped this would prove to be just a one-off anomaly. It wasn't. A month and a half later, just days out from another deployment, I was sitting in my living room talking to a very good friend, a Master Gunnery Sergeant in the USMC (who, as an aside, donated $1,000 to our GiveSendGo campaign to #SaveLucy, thank you 🙏). Apollo was familiar with him already, so I was off my guard, and didn't notice Apollo giving him the stinkeye until it was too late. Apollo lunged and bit. He immediately backed off, but the horrid realization came to me at that moment that my fears were true. My options were limited on the eve of a deployment. To socialize Apollo and train this behavior out of him would take time. I didn't have time. We also didn't have family in the area and Dolly was pregnant again. I couldn't leave my pregnant wife alone for the duration of my tour with a dog who had shown a tendency to bite. I couldn't turn a blind eye to the sideways look he occasionally gave my infant son. Not anymore. I made the devastating decision to rehome him. On what I knew would be our final ride together, he hopped right into the front seat and looked at me, tongue dangling out of his mouth in a happy, sloppy pant, his nub of a tail bobbing up and down, wondering what wonderful adventure daddy was taking him on this time. I'm sure he was confident it was going to be a great time no matter what. It felt like betrayal to me. When we reached the shelter, he faithfully followed me in. We sat in a corner. He leaned against my legs and I stroked his head one final time. It felt like we sat there forever, but I didn't mind. I would have been happy for time to stop, to stay in that moment, just me and my dog, stripped of all externalities, for eternity. But time didn't stop. At length, the door opened and a lady entered. Apollo pressed in against my shins. His 40 pound weight felt heavy. Crushing. I gave him one last embrace, then closed my eyes. "That's a good boy," I whispered, though I couldn't bring myself to look. "I'll always love you." She took Apollo and led him through the door, never for me to see him again. Even today, when I close my eyes, I can still feel the weight of his warm body pressing against mine, trusting me to keep him safe. That was as hard a thing as I've ever done in my life. It was a no-kill shelter, but I played things close to the chest. I did not tell them the worst details. I only mentioned my fear of possible aggression against my child while I was deployed. I did not want to jeopardize Apollo's chance at another opportunity. For months, I kept checking the shelter's website for information about him, but I never saw an update. I do not know what became of him, sadly. I got back home and Dolly asked me where Apollo was. I don't remember if I said anything. I was numb. I hadn't told her where I was going or what I was doing. I had not wanted anything to change my mind. I knew my heart wasn't in it, but I wasn't going to be stopped. It was the right thing to do for my wife, son, and community. Her tears flowed when she realized what I had done. She also loved Apollo. I went to lay on the bed upstairs and be alone. Just weeks later, in a mudhole in the desert, I met my sweet Lucy and my heart began to heal. Saving her from that war zone helped me deal with the lingering guilt I felt about Apollo. I continue to feel the sting of that experience. I wouldn't change what I did though. I love dogs. I will always stand up for dogs when they are mistreated. I will adopt unwanted dogs when I am able. A great measure of a man is how he treats dogs. I aim to always pass that test. But I will always defend human life. Only humans are made in the image of God. I hope and pray that God has a place for dogs when this life is over, but humans He created with souls destined for glory. "You have never talked to a mere mortal," CS Lewis explained. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendors." I completely agree. I love dogs. They have no guile in them, no duplicity. A dog will not tell you a lie. I like them better than I like people, often. But I cannot choose a dog over a life that was uniquely created to glorify the Almighty (Isaiah 43:7). I will always protect human life. That is why I served. That is why I deployed several times. To protect people, even when they didn't realize they needed protecting. I failed once. I received a report about a plot to blow up a bomb in Beirut. I got it out with all the speed and precision I could, but it got bogged down by the sideshow of the editing process for hours. I got distracted and didn't follow up on it aggressively. In the end, I'm sure the bureaucrats in their cubicles transliterated the names correctly. I'm sure they crossed every T and dotted every I. But at a price. A devastating price. I woke up the next morning to read in the news that a bomb had gone off in Beirut. It was carried out by the people my report said would carry it out. It took place in the exact locale I said it would take place. 43 people dead. Hundreds wounded. Families shattered. I didn't know these people, but my heart sank. Human life is sacred. I will always work to defend it. If I can save a few dogs along the way, great. That is also the Lord's work. But I will never keep a dog that is a danger to my neighbors. Whatever their sins, their harassment, libel, and cunning deceits, they are made in the image of God with souls destined for eternity. Lucy, my 11-year-old dog that survived ISIS, is no danger to my them. I know it in my very bones. The Mountains Have Eyes said that the DA told him I was not a responsible dog owner when he called to inquire about Lucy. Sometimes I don’t understand why Ajit Agarkar was and is always against Sanju Samson In 2023, India had 3 squads for the Asia Cup, Asian Games & ODI World Cup. 31 different players got selected across those tournaments & somehow Sanju wasn’t part of any squads. What’s even crazier is that he was picked as a reserve player for the Asia Cup, which meant he wasn’t part of the Asian Games squad & it also affected his plans to play County Cricket. So in the end he wasn’t part of the Asia Cup squad, wasn’t part of the Asian Games squad & couldn’t continue with his County plans either. Everyone who followed the ODI matches before the 2023 World Cup knew Sanju was the most deserving guy who wasn’t picked in the squad. When Sanju scored 3 T20I centuries as an opener in 2024, Ajit Agarkar openly said he was only playing because Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal were unavailable. Imagine saying that about a player who had just scored 3 centuries in 5 matches for India in T20Is something no one has done before in a year. Most players would get backed after performances like that. That was so disrespectful from the national selector. I wonder how Sanju would have felt that day. Then came the ODI explanation. Ajit Agarkar said Sanju wasn’t being picked because he was a top-order batter. But Sanju has literally batted everywhere in ODI cricket other than opening and his numbers have been excellent irrespective of the position. His last ODI innings was a match-winning century in a series decider against South Africa at Paarl, one of the toughest batting venues in the country, and after that innings he never played another ODI for India. Last year selectors picked ODI squad with 3 different WKs for a series & Sanju wasn’t one of them. That’s when the explanation came that Sanju is a top-order batter. But now Virat Kohli gets injured and India need a No.3 batter, yet Sanju still isn’t being considered despite being the last Indian batter other than Kohli to score an ODI century at No.3. So he wasn’t picked because he was a top-order batter, but when a top-order spot opens up he still isn’t picked. What kind of logic is that? Did you hear what Justin Trudeau is doing to the Amish farmers? One of Justin Trudeau’s stupidest rules during the Covid lockdown was to force Canadians to use the ArriveCan app whenever returning to Canada, or face a $6,000 fine. There was no science behind it — it was just bullying and a cash grab. But did you hear what Trudeau did to the Amish farmers? (You know who the Amish are, right? They’re a group of old-fashioned, religious farmers who came to Canada from Europe to escape religious persecution. They reject modern technology. They don’t use the Internet, or even electricity. They don’t have telephones and they drive around in horses and buggies.) So imagine ordering the Amish to “download the ArriveCan app to their smart phone”. Seriously. Not a single word in that sentence makes sense. But that’s what Trudeau’s border enforcers did. The Canadian Amish go back and forth to the U.S. to visit other Amish communities. And every time they came back, they’d be hit with a $6,000 ArriveCan fine — every man, woman and child. It totalled hundreds of thousands of dollars. The pandemic ended — by the way, not a single Amish got sick, they told me. But then one day, an Amish farmer went to the bank to get a loan to buy some cattle, and he offered his farmhouse as security for the loan, as usual. But the banker told the Amish farmer he couldn’t use his farmhouse as security, because the government had put a lien on it, until the ArriveCan fines were paid! Other Amish farmers checked, and they had the same liens put on their property, too. It was a total surprise — no-one had notified the Amish about that extreme tactic. If you have a lien on your property, you can’t sell it, you can’t mortgage it, and you can’t hand it down from father to son. The entire Amish community was paralyzed by this brutal enforcement of the ArriveCan app, against people who don’t even have cell phones in the first place! This is such an insane story, you’d think every journalist in the country would cover it. I mean, speaking purely from a human interest point of view, it’s fascinating — the Amish are unique; the ArriveCan app is scandalous for other reasons; the fines are astronomical, and putting a lien on a farmhouse, stopping the farmer from being able to operate, is a shocking and abusive act of government bullying. It’s an incredible story. But I haven’t seen a single “mainstream” outlet talk about this at all. Is it because they all support the ArriveCan app? Are they hostile to the Amish? Or do they simply refuse to stand up for anyone who didn’t go along with Covidmania? Granted, it’s hard to tell a story when the subjects of the story don’t use modern communication techniques, and won’t even appear on camera. But there are ways around that. Rebel News broke this story this summer, and we’ve made the decision as a company to cover it in great detail. Every single court date, every single hearing, we’ll be there. Just like we covered all 47 days of Tamara Lich’s trial, we’re going to cover this epic battle between the shy Christian farmers and the bullies of the Covid enforcers.
