Modern Controls are easily the best implementation of assist features I've seen in the genre, and definitely viable at most levels of play, even if it's not optimal (seems character dependant on how restrictive it is). It's a solid sidegrade with a lower barrier to entry.

I think the Modern Control setting is very useful for people new or casual to fighting games especially Street Fighter 6. I'm not new to these games but I have been able to win a few matches with the Modern Control setting. So don't let anyone tell you what can and can't work.
