Using physics to hit a pool shot in the right place

Firstly, it’s geometry. Secondly, this is dumb. He’s completely eyeballing the first angle….there’s no preciseness in his lining up, whatsoever. Thirdly, he doesn’t even perfectly hit the rail where the chalk is. He’s close, but off by at least half an inch, on both shots.

I thought that was geometry.

He doesn't even need to work out the angle to the pocket, just the angle to have the white nick the back of the black.

Ah, this explains where I've been going wrong! The angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection (yep, that's proved by physics) BUT I could never work out how to apply that to the bloody ball I was trying to hit into the hole! I get it now.

I know some mathematicians who'd like to have a word here, and the extra joke is that if you actually did the physics, the geometric prediction would be wrong.
