Using the CRISPR technique, it's possible to genetically modify mosquitoes by disabling a gene in females, so that their proboscis turns male, making them unable to pierce human skin.

Yea sure let's genetically disrupt billions of years of evolution that we still don't fully understand I'm sure nothing will go wrong (Of course this isn't being done on a large scale but the idea is being advertised... dont mess with complex systems)

To all of you pearl clutching about how this could cause an ecological disaster: 1) The mosquito is not a *primary* food source for any species - nor do they serve any vital role ecologically, unlike honey bees or squirrels. The opposite actually. THEY are the ones wreaking ecological havok for hundreds of species because they are literally biohazardous parasites. 2) They are quite literally the world's deadliest animal due to how massive of a disease vector their parasitic feeding method causes

not certain that is a great idea. mosquitoes do have a place in the food chain. eliminating them could have downstream effects that would be catastrophic

They tried so hard, and got so far... but in the end... did it even matter? Actually sorta feel bad for it. Like it keeps doing the things, but it doesn't work. Like watching a roomba that can't navigate a piece of room it doesn't understand.
