I used to do that 4 times per year at my house. There was the very satisfying 'whoosh' as the 40 LF gutter drained and I could see it empty into the woods through a 4" PVC pipe I buried. Then I got off my lazy ass and installed proper micro stainless steel gutter guards. No more whoosh but no more climbing on the roof and no more clogs. And yes, I used my bare hands too.

I can tell from this post you would have never made it a day working alongside me when I worked as a heavy equipment mechanic having lay down in muddy dirt on a job site to drop a belly pan in a trackhoe, & get covered in grease, so we could get multimillion $ golf course done!!

Assuming you have no cuts or anything on your hands skin is a surprising good barrier on ots own. You can even wash it afterwards with soap and water too.
