Capacitive coupling, the principal behind the no contact voltage detector he is using (also known as a death stick in the electrical industry) is sensitive and is functioning exactly as expected. It is what makes them a very unreliable tools.

This is so ridiculous, its a simple non contact voltage tester, which wont function on 5 volts dc, he is simply pressing the test button.

We call those widow makers in the electrical field. They are inconsistent with their readings and people rely on them too heavily to tell them if the circuit is dead or not. Rub it on your shirt and you’ll get a signal. It just picks up static and magnetic fields.
