I would argue there is a third quality, one that makes the scam explicit: The only proposed solutions diminish quality of life. Real problems have many solutions, and the insistence on solutions that hurt you is a choice by those wielding power.

It's not impossible to learn more abour context later and come to appreciate a story even more so because of that. Stories in UC are written in a way where fans, new and old, can fully grasp the themes and story without watching anything prior and the people who make these shows know this, and entrusts the viewers with faith that they'll see it through.

The US government shut down is just the latest glaring example of the failure of the American healthcare system. The idea that you can mandate people to purchase private health insurance from an unreformed monopoly that charges outrageous prices through a hospital system with no transparent pricing is an absurdity. There are solutions to the American healthcare system ... ranging from direct pricing with catastrophic coverage to an expansion of Medicare to cover everybody. However, because both political parties are funded by the private and health insurance monopoly the government makes policy that enriches that monopoly at the expense of the American people and then put on theatrics like these shutdowns. We can do better
