The destruction at Jomo Kenyatta Boys High School in Nakuru is deeply disturbing. Students had only recently returned after an earlier incident that forced each learner to contribute KSh4,400 towards repairs. Now, the school has reportedly suffered even greater destruction following another rampage. Beyond the damaged buildings are parents who will bear the financial burden, teachers whose work has been disrupted, and students whose learning has once again been interrupted.

The very people who once institutionalized corruption are today raising allegations against others, which is precisely why such accusations carry little credibility. This appears to be nothing more than an attempt to project themselves as the “good Trinamool.” The party has always allowed space for internal discussions and dissent, but those who chose silence when it truly mattered are now conveniently trying to distance themselves from their own responsibilities. Ironically, many of the leaders who were nurtured, empowered, and given recognition by Abhishek Banerjee are today speaking against him. What is even more unfortunate is that Abhishek is now being forced to shoulder the burden of the incompetence and opportunism of those very leaders. During difficult times for the party, many of them were nowhere to be seen, yet today they are quick to point fingers at him. Despite everything, All India Trinamool Congress has repeatedly shown that it knows how to fight back and rise again. The party will recover and emerge stronger. If Mamata Banerjee once again takes to the streets, the countless grassroots soldiers of the party have the strength and determination to completely change the political narrative once more.

This time, the threat has come from Faridul Alam, the senior vice-chairman of the Awami League in Maheshkhali Upazila, Cox's Bazar, and the former chairman of Huanak Union. This is the third consecutive threat from the Awami League. It raises the question of why the U.S. is not taking these threats seriously, the threats are deemed credible.

The altercation in Peckham had nothing to do with race but somehow a black woman allegedly shoplifting has been used to demonise and intimidate a South Asian owner. Defending someone who is in the wrong and making up excuses simply because they have the same skin colour as you goes against equality.

About a year and a half ago, I stood at this exact location, the Sleep Inn in Sheepshead Bay, demanding answers from the city when it was being used as a migrant shelter. Fast forward to today: the site is now being used as a homeless shelter, and once again, there has been zero transparency. No notice to my office. No outreach to the community. No answers. That’s why I came back. And that’s why I’ve formally sent a letter to DHS demanding full transparency. We are asking simple, reasonable questions: What is this site being used for? What is the long-term plan? How many people are being housed here? Why has the community been kept in the dark, again? And how many sites like this is the city hiding from us in Southern Brooklyn? This is a residential neighborhood. People deserve to know what’s happening where they live. I will keep pushing until we get answers.
