validation is the new leash?

personal experience as a content creator: I used to reply to every comment on my videos for YEARS. viewers weren't just taking time out of their day to watch my videos, they were thinking about my content and sharing their thoughts in a comment, so I felt that the least I could do was take a few seconds to reply to their comment. I felt like I was doing the right thing but after a few years I noticed something: I felt emotionally unstable after those reply sessions. I saw every piece of positive feedback and every piece of negative feedback, and it was a mini emotional rollercoaster each time. it took me a stupidly long time to realise that this wasn't healthy and was making me unproductive because I was letting the most vocal, outspoken members of my audience dictate the direction of my content. not only that, but being on an emotional rollercoaster is just exhausting... I was losing energy to a non-essential part of my content process I still love engaging with people online (eg this reply) but in a much healthier, non-obligatory way

yes. i used to be 100 active too. now i come reply to comments i see and some very well put comments and then go back offline
