#WATCH | Jaipur, Rajasthan: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw says, "The development of Kavach started in 2016 and till 2019 there was a lot of development, certification, even after that many improvements were made, new versions were brought and on 16 August, version 4.0 was approved and its first installation has been done between Sawai Madhopur to Kota... Testing has been done, today was the inspection... If the train is approaching a red signal and the driver is not paying attention, then Kavach will automatically apply the brakes... This has brought a huge improvement in the safety of railways."

The approval allows trains to run at speeds of up to 100 kmph on the 111-kilometre-long new broad gauge rail section between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Banihal under the Jammu Division of Northern Railway. Earlier, the permissible speed was 85 kmph on the Katra-Sangaldan section and 75 kmph on the Sangaldan-Banihal section. With this approval, this special train is expected to cover the travel time between J&K's capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar in around three and a half hours.
