I pity those students just about to join university. They'll be in debt forever. Hear me out: When I was in KU we (govt sponsored) paid school fees of like 16k per semester. Naona hii kitu ya gava wataabolish HELB walete HELA (Higher EducationLoansAuthority). Then kila mtu apewe loans za course yake, no govt scholarships. So kila mtu anajilipia, just by loans. Na hizi sio kama loans za Helb za 4%. These will be appreciating at market rates, imagine 14%. Then ukianza kuwork unakatwa up to 25% of your salary kulipia hizi loans. Hebu tuchukue mtu ansomea Engineering like I did at 100k per sem, two sems per year, for 5 years. Then huyu jamaa anakaa nje for 5 years ndio apate job yake ya kwanza, inamlipa 100k. How long will it take him to repay the loan? Hii ni hesabu mzito sana. Ukiweka hizi numbers kwa karatasi, the reality is very brutal. Nitafanya math step by step later, but the bottom-line is that huyu jamaa hatawahi maliza kulipa hiyo loan. He is paying 300,000 KES per year but the loan is generating 406,250 KES in interest over the exact same period. Hii inamaanisha badala ya loan kupungua, the debt is actually increasing by over 100,000 KES every year. In finance, this is called negative amortization. Unless the guy gets massive salary increments very fast or decides to pay way more than the 25% cut, he will be trapped in debt for life. Atakuwa analipa interest tupu na the principal will just keep growing forever.

Hii ndio waliambiwa watasoma free?😂🤡🚮

Comrades itabidi muende streets. Things are not working out. Promised 'Free Education' yet they are planning how to extort you. Ni mbayaaa.

Zakayo aliwaambia mtasoma free na mkaamini!😅😅

100% Funding = 100% Loan = Zero Funding. This at a time when we would expect a regime that gives us 100% FREE EDUCATION! Who has bewitched us, oh Kenyans! To be repaid upon employment, by up to 25% of one's salary! 25%! We are in dangerous! @abayaonyiego @OliveAmbrose6

The student loans that have American students unable to repay their loans for decades!!! @rigathi please milk this one kabisa!!! Hii itakupatia points mingi sana!

Everything is dying under ruto. Kenya csn not survive another year with him on charge. He can waste our millions to village elders, nyota, affordable housing, private jets, empowerment, etc, but wouldn't return HELB to how it was before he started meddling

The fool said we will do free education, sasa hii ni free education aje

Mark the word, higher interest rates🤣🤣 considering the cost pf each course isn't subsidised as before

Hapa comrades hakuna kutoka block walahi. Unafanya job alafu kabla hata deposit ifanywe Paye 30% Helb 25% Sha. 2.75% NSSF 6% Housing levy 1.75% Total deductions 65.5% Comrades you know what to do

What is the logic for abolishing grants? Is this government naturally stupid or is it an acquired mental disorder?

What crime did employers do to Ruto? Why punish employers in an obligation between student and his school. Why introduce a heavy loan?

Haha,I knew it. Something was of course hidden from the public. Anything above 4% is oblivious. Mind you the rate of employment is at the lowest. Aki ya nani fuck Ruto man

theyre borrowing from the USA....the penalties are heavy there and its the same model....lots of students jobless and in heavy debts becouse of this model. everytime you get money its not yours

Everything ruto touches turns into ash #RutoMustGo

@Mwafreeka Copy and paste of the US financial aid models, young voters please make sure you sending home. Barabara ni sugoi one way

4% intrest and you have to wait for 5 years before getting a job... These loans will be paid till retirement date

Ruto is just a curse on Kenyans, he is out here shamelessly saying that higher education will be totally free knowing very well the mess he is planning to create. He has made everything so complex and bureaucratic. Fools will be out here singing tutam😨😨

Hapa most graduates wataanza maisha na loan ya not less than 1 million. It's like they didn't want to learn from Americans or maybe they're too greedy to even think of the repercussions.

This government is so obsessed with levies and taxes on its working class and now students! They are so determined to make themselves 1 term.

@mmnjug Education should be subsidized not turned into a business for the government.

Wueh! We are so deep in it! Thank God our last born is almost done but what about the others? When does it stop? Imagine your first job and salary and already paying loans! I hope this bill never sees the light of day. Wantam

Imagine education is collapsing because of that know it all prick but acha kwanza tulipe village elders

@HEBabuOwino Komboa Comrades Mheshimiwa , hapa you're the only reliable person to save the situation

Aaaaand that ugly president is wondering whyyy SIFUNAAAA!!!, I swear to God his politics will go bad after this, never getting a comeback, kama Riggy G.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 even satan fears this kasongo guy

I am surprised that you people expected good news from Kasongo himself. Anything that man does is meant to milk every little peny and hope Kenyans have

Only 100 Billion in a budget of 4 Trillion!! This thing is so achievable!!

Last time he said full funding, saa hii loan. Mayoo

Lol. The chaos and confusion in this government is unprecedented.

I knew this is what kasongo was calling free university funding model..... jumping from the pan direct to the fire

The beneficiaries of affordable education in the past are Punishing the current and future generations and denying them their inalienable RIGHT to EDUCATION by the STATE.

Where were the grants that have been abolished? 😯 Also, didn't the President, while recently speaking about free university education, reiterated that he isn't mad? I can't tell what pathology is this.
