A patient who had been detained because they could not afford to clear their hospital bill attempted to take their own life. It was a painful and disturbing scene that no Kenyan should ever have to witness. No one seeking medical care should be pushed to such desperation because of financial hardship. This incident should serve as a wake-up call. Access to healthcare must protect human dignity, not strip it away.
