U.S. President JD Vance, who considers himself a devout Catholic, was asked earlier about the administration’s recent public conflict with The Vatican and Pope Leo XIV, as well as last night’s picture posted by President Trump depicting himself as Jesus Christ. Vance responded that he thinks the picture was a “joke” by the President, and that The Vatican should stick to matters of “morality and the Catholic Church” and not the policy of the United States.

According to Vance, the White House now has “details” to work with. He argued that the “lion’s share” of responsibility for Ukraine’s security guarantees should fall on Europe, while the U.S. will not commit until it is clear what exactly is required to end the conflict. Vance also spoke about his interactions with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine. He described Vladimir Putin as “very calculating” and softer in conversation than commonly perceived.
