U.S. President JD Vance, who considers himself a devout Catholic, was asked earlier about the administration’s recent public conflict with The Vatican and Pope Leo XIV, as well as last night’s picture posted by President Trump depicting himself as Jesus Christ. Vance responded that he thinks the picture was a “joke” by the President, and that The Vatican should stick to matters of “morality and the Catholic Church” and not the policy of the United States.

The current old building of the church belongs to the Sasanian era and its interior design is a combination of Sasanian and Arsacid architecture. A Chinese princess, who contributed to its reconstruction in 642 AD, has her name engraved on a stone on the church wall. The famous Italian traveller Marco Polo also described the church in his visit. Briefly prior to the World War I, it was converted by Russians to a Russian Orthodox church. Zelenskyy was reportedly asked to leave and was escorted out of the White House. It was a shockingly terrible meeting. Given how bad that day was, I wanted to know how he and President Trump Donald J. Trump ended up on good terms. He said the tone has "absolutely changed”, and he traced it to one private 15 minute conversation he had with Trump at the Vatican, just the two of them. He called it historic. Zelenskyy will be meeting with President Trump in the Oval Office on Tuesday, July 28th.

According to Vance, the White House now has “details” to work with. He argued that the “lion’s share” of responsibility for Ukraine’s security guarantees should fall on Europe, while the U.S. will not commit until it is clear what exactly is required to end the conflict. Vance also spoke about his interactions with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine. He described Vladimir Putin as “very calculating” and softer in conversation than commonly perceived. At his last meeting with Zelensky, Vance joked: “Mr. President, as long as you behave, I won’t say anything.” Zelensky simply smiled — “a nice little way to break the ice,” Vance said.
