Victor Davis Hanson opened with a warning—and it wasn’t subtle. This week, Germany’s only major right-wing opposition party, Alternative for Germany (AfD), was officially labeled an “extremist” group by the country’s domestic intelligence agency, the BfV. The designation sent shockwaves through the political landscape. AfD immediately challenged it in...

Germany is on the brink of national suicide—and it’s no accident. What was once Europe’s economic powerhouse is now unraveling under green delusions, open borders, and paralyzing deindustrialization. Victor Davis Hanson reveals the one party trying to save the nation from this nightmare. But the elites just labeled them “extremists” for telling the truth. 🧵THREAD

So where is Germany going? Hanson painted a bleak picture—of economic decline, energy failure, and political denial. “If you look at what has become of Germany,” he said, “it has had two years of essentially no growth or negative growth.” He noted the country finally reached its long-delayed NATO defense spending goal, pledging 2% of GDP—something it was supposed to do back in 2014. But the milestone felt more like a bare-minimum box-check than a serious turning point. “It just barely did it,” Hanson said. Meanwhile, Germany has doubled down on green energy while dismantling its nuclear infrastructure, despite the country’s climate not being suited for solar reliance. The results have been catastrophic. German electricity costs are now roughly four times higher than those in the United States. And that’s not just hitting households—it’s pushing away manufacturers and investors who can no longer justify doing business in the country. “You can see what that’s going to do to German investment,” Hanson warned.

The problems aren’t limited to energy and economics. Hanson pointed to a deeper crisis—one that strikes at the heart of Germany’s identity. Open borders and mass migration, largely from the Middle East, has dramatically reshaped the population. And according to Hanson, the consequences are both cultural and existential. He estimated that 16 to 18 percent of Germany’s population wasn’t born in the country and has not assimilated. “These are refugees—or I don’t think they’re refugees,” he said. “They’re illegal immigrants from the volatile Middle East. Most of them are Muslim. Most of them do not have an intention of assimilating, intermarrying, and integrating fully in German society.” The government’s refusal to address this, he said, has allowed a demographic transformation to unfold without public debate or accountability. And that’s a far cry from the Germany that once held Europe together. “For years, Germany was the powerhouse, the cohesive economic power that kept the EU together,” Hanson recalled. “It’s very tragic.” Even the German military—a former pillar of NATO—is now little more than a shell. “During the Cold War, it fielded one of the best NATO armies… well over 400,000 troops,” he said. “It’s almost literally disarmed.”

In a functioning democracy, Hanson argued, this kind of failure would trigger a national reckoning. There would be debate. Conflict. Reform. Politicians and citizens would argue over energy, borders, military policy, and economic growth. They’d hash it out—then find consensus. Germany would close its borders. Demand full assimilation. Return to reliable energy. And reassert itself on the global stage. That’s what you’d expect in a healthy system. But instead of debating those solutions, the one party calling for them is silenced. “They would do all of that,” Hanson said. “But instead, when one party is advocating much of what I just talked about, they demonize it because it’s out of the norm.” Then came the most chilling line of all: “And the norm, unfortunately in Germany today, is national suicide.” For Hanson, this isn’t just a German issue. The collapse of a once-great Western democracy—economically, militarily, and culturally—will have ripple effects far beyond Europe. “Unfortunately, this is not going to end well for Germany,” he concluded. “And it’s not going to end well for us. We need a powerful, friendly Germany and we wish it well.” “But the reaction to needed reform—economic, political, social, cultural, military, diplomatic—is not to essentially ban a political party’s freedom of expression. That shows weakness and fear rather than confidence in the future.”

Did you really believe the lies that Germans tell everybody? German, did not Change after 1945. My family was persecuted since about 1950 for not collaborating with the german state during the Nazi time. Open persecution began in 1958.

Last week, the German government officially designated the opposition party Alternative for Germany (AfD) as a “confirmed extremist” organization. The announcement came from the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, and was endorsed by outgoing Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, who claimed the party posed a fundamental threat to democracy. The designation opened the door to enhanced surveillance, undercover infiltration, and a potential party ban, but Faeser provided no evidence to the public, just a press release about the 1,100-page report. Then, on Wednesday, the BfV abruptly withdrew the extremist label. “The BfV will now monitor the party only as a ‘suspected case,’” wrote Politico, “a lower-tier designation that still allows surveillance, but under stricter judicial oversight.” Earlier this week, somebody leaked the report. It reveals that the evidence against AfD consists not of plans for violence or insurrection but of controversial rhetoric and deeply nationalist views, many of which, while inflammatory, remain legally protected and broadly shared in German society. “Criticism of Bill Gates is classified as ‘anti-Semitic’ because Bill Gates is ‘read as Jewish,’” German free speech attorney, Joachim Steinhöfel, told Public. “Björn Höcke [a politician] is classified as particularly powerful because [AfD leader] Alice Weidel talks about wind turbines just like him.” The report claimed that simply criticizing George Soros was anti-Semitic. And it claimed that the slogan, “Alice für Deutschland,” which means “Alice for Germany,” referring to Weidel, is coded Nazism. In place of any significant evidence that the AfD are Nazis, the report denounces AfD for comparing the government to Nazis. It is true that AfD members have said offensive things. There have been incidents of members making bigoted remarks. The report is full of offensive statements by AfD members. And the party leadership has not always moved quickly enough to distance itself from them. But isolated incidents of offensive rhetoric does not define a party, particularly one with more than 150 seats in parliament and millions of supporters. As importantly, the BfV’s leaked report fails to show a pattern of criminal behavior or coordinated insurrection. And the BfV misrepresents the law. It claims that AfD’s “ethnic-cultural concept of the people” makes it extremist, but that view is not unconstitutional unless it results in unequal treatment of citizens. “Yes, there are numerous repulsive statements,” said Steinhöfel. “But the secret dossier is above all an unprecedented state attack on freedom of opinion. According to the intelligence agency's assessment, almost all critical statements about illegal mass migration are anti-constitutional. Words such as ‘knife migration’ and ‘system parties,’ almost all central words in the special language of the AfD, are flatly declared to be anti-constitutional.” And Der Spiegel, which reviewed the full report, and is emphatically anti-AfD, acknowledged that it contains hundreds of inflammatory statements from AfD officials, but also conceded that the party’s leadership includes many elected officials, that some of the worst offenders were expelled, and that no cohesive violent agenda is present. “As of today, it is clear that the Ministry of the Interior deliberately deceived the public,” said Steinhöfel. “[Former Interior Minister] Nancy Faeser's authority justified the secrecy of the AfD report with the protection of ‘confidential information.’ However, there is no intelligence information in the paper that would endanger possible sources, for example. It is purely a collection of quotes in a lengthy 1,108 pages.” And if extremist statements are enough to justify surveillance or banning, then nearly every major party in Germany should be subject to investigation. Members of the Green Party and SPD have expressed solidarity with extremist groups, supported disruptive protests, and made anti-constitutional statements. In 2020, for example, leading Green figures supported activists who sought to forcibly occupy public buildings. “The total collecting frenzy of an unleashed secret service that criminalizes perfectly legitimate statements in a Stasi-like report,” Steinhöfel said. “The picture that emerges is of a secret service that citizens must fear. A clear aim of the dossier is to prevent any criticism of the left-green naturalization policy by force” Please subscribe now to support Public's defense of free speech, read the rest of the article, and watch the full video!

After the fall of the Third Reich, the architects of the new German republic wrote a constitution, known as the “Basic Law,” designed to prevent a return to tyranny. It protects free speech, free assembly, and freedom of the press. It limits the powers of elected leaders and requires an independent judiciary. And the system worked. Even during moments of crisis — reunification, terrorism, economic turmoil — Germany’s institutions, for the most part, held. Today, Germany’s liberal democracy is in grave danger. The government is seriously considering banning the most popular political party in the country, the Alternative for Germany, or AfD. It came in second in national elections in February and now leads in the polls. It has surged by campaigning against mass migration, energy shortages, and the erosion of national sovereignty. Instead of trying to defeat the party through open debate and fair elections, Germany’s political establishment has turned to the courts, the intelligence services, and the language of national security. Today, the government’s domestic spy agency has labeled the AfD a “confirmed extremist organization,” a designation that opens the door to round-the-clock surveillance, undercover infiltration, and a ban. “It’s clear to me that a ban has to come," said a member of the governing Social Democratic Party (SPD). All of this comes at a time when state prosecutors are using new speech laws to target AfD candidates and supporters, fining them, harassing them, and in some cases trying to disqualify them from running for office. Behind closed doors, parliament leaders have refused to grant the AfD basic accommodations, including access to meeting space. What began as democratic competition is turning into something else.... VDH Pointing At Megyn Kelly Morphing Into A Zombie: “They’ve Lost Their Minds” “It reminds me of all of these movies like The Invasion of the Body Snatchers or The Last of Us or The Walking Dead... you never really know who’s a zombie until they turn." Victor Davis Hanson, the historian and national speaker, addressed the evolving landscape of American attitudes toward Israel and antisemitism in a recent in today's episode of the Victor Davis Hanson In His Own Words, highlighting what he described as a troubling shift across the political spectrum. Hanson argued that while the Democratic Party and elements of the cultural left had long embraced antisemitic tendencies, certain voices on the right were now joining in, leaving staunch support for Israel primarily in the hands of former President Donald Trump and the MAGA base. Hanson traced the roots of the problem to the political left, noting that during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, and further intensified by diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, “they became anti-semitic.” In contrast, he emphasized, “It was the Republican party that stood up for Israel.”He expressed particular disappointment with figures once aligned with conservative or Republican circles who have recently voiced skepticism toward Israel. Citing Megyn Kelly as an example, Hanson recounted her public reflection: “I think I’ve been mistaken. And I might have been affected too much by people who were pro-Israel. And now I think we’ve been a little bit too hard on Islam and Netanyahu did this and Netanyahu did this.” Hanson grouped her alongside others including Steve Bannon, Candace Owens, and Tucker Carlson. Of Carlson, Hanson observed that the podcaster is “very informed” and “very bright,” yet still questions strong support for Israel despite knowing key historical threats. “He knows that Roth and Johnny said that Israel was a one bomb state. One bomb could kill all the Jews. He knows what Akmanagen Akminad [Ahmadinejad] said he wanted to wipe,” Hanson stated, adding pointedly, “Why would he say it would be helpful if Iran had a bomb?” Hanson noted the absence of forceful pushback within conservative circles. “There’s no party that says, ‘How dare you?’ They’re both in on it, their bases,” he said, referring to growing tolerance for anti-Israel rhetoric on both sides. Hanson contrasted this with the unexpected defenders of Jewish communities amid rising campus harassment and demonization: “The only people now in the United States who will stand up and say, ‘No more. We’re not going to let you demonize a whole people and push them around and rough them up on campus and call them all these names’ is who? It’s Donald Trump and the MAGA base, the irredeemables, the clingers. They’re the people who are still supporting Israel. They still support Jews and evangelicals.” Hanson explicitly rejected other factions as reliable allies. “It is not the Democratic Party. It is not the podcaster right base. It is not the DEI people. It is not the bicoastal leftwing elite teachers unions,” Hanson declared. To illustrate the sudden, widespread nature of the shift, he invoked pop-culture metaphors of infection and transformation. “It reminds me of all of these movies like The Invasion of the Body Snatchers or The Last of Us or The Walking Dead that certain people, you know, get infected and now they’re lost and they’re zombies and the other people, you never really know who’s a zombie until they turn,” he said. “Well, now they’re all turning and they’ve lost their minds.”

🇩🇪‼️🚨 GERMAN GOVERNMENT COLLAPSED BECAUSE OF UKRAINE! -> Scholz is now ruling Germany with a minority in the parliament! Germany ran out of money to support Ukraine and is legally prevented to make more debt, that caused a clash within the government and it collapsed! (There were more problems, but that “straw broke the camels back”.) -> There is a “debt break” law, that prevents the German government to take on debt beyond an allowed sum, which Germany exhaust already. 1) According to chancellor Scholz, not being able to finance Ukraine or decrease financing of social spending to free money for Ukraine is an extraordinarily emergency situation that threatens Germany. So Scholz demanded from the finance minister to suspend the law and allow the take on more debt to pay for and send to Ukraine. The plan was to just make more debt for Ukraine. 2) But the finance minister refused to do that, since that would breach the oath of he gave to Germany as a finance minister. Essentially Ukraine collapse is of course is not threatening Germany, just Scholz and his government personally. 3) Scholz fired the finance minister Lindner for not obeying his wish. 4) The party of the finance minister FDP, in reaction retracted from the ruling government! The ruling government consisted out of 3 parties: SPD (Scholz’s party), the Green Party and the FDP. This is needed to form a majority in the parliament. But now one of these parties retracted from the coalition, hence the German government is now ruling with minority. 5) Scholz said “we have no time”, because he wants to finance Ukraine quickly before elections. So he is appointing new ministers for the now empty positions of the withdrawn FDP party. -> Technically (and legally) that is extremely questionable, since the government officially has no majority. So how is making critical decisions? Looks like Scholz wants to push through the Ukraine funding no matter what. 6) The opposition demands new elections quickly, but Scholz wants to govern with the support of the opposition for now. It is a clown show. For now the elections are rumored to come in March 2025. -> The “collective west” collapses on the back of Ukraine. USA Is lucky and likely steps back from this nonsense with Trump. Democracy apparently works without a majority as well.
