VICTORY: FIRE secures a major victory for student free speech at Clovis Community College 🔥🥊💥 Now, the college must adopt a new policy to protect free speech for student organizations, pay $330,000, and provide annual free speech training for staff.

2/ After Clovis administrators banned a student group’s conservative flyers, FIRE sued and won a court order declaring that the college’s flyer policy was unconstitutional, and a federal court later affirmed the students’ victory.

3/ Today’s victory makes the court’s order permanent, protecting the speech rights of 50K+ students at Clovis and three other Fresno-area colleges.

4/ FIRE is happy to report Clovis administrators learned a crucial (and costly) lesson about protecting free expression. Now, Clovis students won’t have to think twice about posting flyers around campus!

The "free speech training" thing makes me tense up a little, because I worry at how easily employer-mandated social training can go awry (*cough* DEI *cough*). I'd rather see institutional encouragement toward individual research. BUT...I'm glad you won a free speech victory.
