EPS can be safely used in construction—but only when properly engineered with reinforced concrete and steel. Were these buildings built to code? Were corners cut? Was corruption involved? There’s a video circulating online claiming to show damage to one of the Miami signature bridge’s arches so I reached out to FDOT for comment. Here’s what they told me: “We want to assure the public that this is not a safety issue. The areas shown in the images are not structural cracks, but minor surface finishing inconsistencies that can sometimes occur after concrete is poured and the formwork is removed. These surface variations are cosmetic in nature and are not structural components or defects. They do not affect the safety, durability, or structural integrity of the bridge in any way. Any surface irregularities are addressed through standard concrete finishing procedures as part of normal construction practice. FDOT is fully committed to ensuring the safety, quality, and long-term durability of the I-395 Signature Bridge. The project is subject to rigorous engineering standards, continuous inspection, and strict quality control measures throughout every phase of construction. Safety remains FDOT’s highest priority, and the Department works closely with project leadership to uphold and exceed established structural and safety requirements. We appreciate the community’s attention and willingness to report anything that seems unusual.”

The North Campus at Giga Texas (aka Optimus 10M/yr factory) work on the main foundation continues, with gravel & crushed concrete being laid down in a massive excavation on the south end, while GeoPier, footing construction & rebar cage assembly work makes progress on the middle to the north end of the site. The foundation work shows at least two types of footing construction underway, one of which appears as isolated footings (or pad footings) with a column starter cage which is a standard reinforced concrete foundation element used under individual columns in buildings. I’m not sure why there are serial kinds of footings being used here, but it is similar to what was used for the south extension to the main factory, along with a few other areas in the main building.

In New Orleans, a video shows agents storming a construction site, grabbing a man who’s just standing there, tackling him to the ground, sitting on him, and handcuffing him… no conversation, no cause, nothing.
