Video games only need to look right from one angle ! I mostly used fixed points of view and projected textures, so my game ends up looking a bit funny whenever I move the camera.

Lol

If you like what you saw you can wishlist the game there :

this artstyle is incredible, it's an insta-wishlist from me! Love me a rougelite deckbuilder

Thanks you !

The owl is my favorite part. No reason for the back to ever be seen 😂

Yep ! but the secret eye are a tactic to scare predator coming from the back an not something I was too lazy to fix

What's your workflow like for creating weird meshes like that?

A weird one, I start with painting the texture then I model around it from the camera POV. My main goal is to have the geometry match the silouhette and grossly the shape. The camera won't move much and all lighting is baked in the texture so I don't need very complexe mesh

final fantasy 7 shipped in 1997 with prerendered backgrounds because the camera was fixed they started remaking it in 2015. part three still isn't out

Back in 2008 or so, we'd do multiple aggressive modeling passes removing any and all triangles that we could. Obv we'd smartly not model like backs of distant mountains and such Nowadays with folks playing with different 2dish from 3d gameplay and views theres tons of tricks

I like these tricks

You're fucking awesome

I feel so cheated now xD

fixed angles are just lazy rendering tricks that hide bad geometry stop pretending projected textures look good when the camera moves

I love how UI is... just there :D

I would PAY to see an unlocked camera in Mihoyo games such as GENSHIN IMPACT or ZENLESS ZONE ZERO. Especially to see the ultimates (probably happening out of map with character clones)

Behind the scenes things like this are my catnip.

The first rule of computer graphics. If it looks correct, then it *is* correct.

Why is the back of that owls head even textured - Is it just a repeating texture?

I am using camera projection so the UV map of the back of the head is placed in the same place as the front (This is what my texture looks like). I could clean it up but it's not really possible to notice it within the game so....

depend the game. This one looks indredible!

Yeah that's true, but even in big AAA games some backgrounds will probably never be seen from more than one POV

Wow. My favorite part of gaming has always been Easter eggs. Little tricks like this are so cool

That looks awesome

Looks amazing!

Reminds me of the image from the telltale walking dead game where they rotate the camera to show how they achieved the mirror effect in the police car

Didn't knew about before but after watching it I must say it's a good one !

Yeah stuff like that is interesting because you wouldn't assume that's the easiest way to do it but when you see it done it makes so much sense.

Yea, one of the most basic thing to do in a video game if you wanna save space haha. Only load and show what is necessary, players dont need to see anything else lmao

Also it saves a bunch of time ! Making a game solo is already such a huge task, I can't really take time to make things no one will probably see

Its a shame most games dont have an option to see all those things

nah i think they only need to look right from 0 angles

Bethesda gets blamed and hated for that 😔

essa parte do texto q fiquei meio bolado. É assim msm que a indústria faz?
