It's not that any of the ballistics of the .40 suck, ALL service/duty caliber handguns suck. The .40 sucks because of the recoil impulse (for most shooters) and it's an overpressured round that's hard on guns. Plus, the most common loads use too heavy, 180gr, of a projectile.
