Five suspects have been remanded by the Kade Circuit Court in connection with the violent attack on Mr. Michael Quayson, a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School in the Eastern Region. The suspects, arrested by the Cyber Security Unit of the Ghana Police Service, appeared in court today, January 7, 2026, and were remanded into police custody pending a hearing on January 20, 2026. According to reports, the attack was allegedly carried out in retaliation for the teacher’s firm supervision during the 2025 WASSCE, which prevented examination malpractice.

TROOPS APPREHEND 46 SUSPECTED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN OGUN STATE Troops of the Nigerian Army, in conjunction with DSS, NSCDC and Immigration, have apprehended 46 suspected illegal immigrants residing in Ogun State following actionable intelligence. The operation which commenced on 11 June 2026, led to the arrest of the suspects at various locations within Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese and surrounding communities during a targeted security operation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals had allegedly been residing in the state for approximately six months without valid immigration documentation. During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various commodities. The arrested individuals comprise 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 nationals of Côte d'Ivoire, 4 nationals of Togo and 1 national of Senegal. Among them are 36 males and 10 females. The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State Command, for further investigation and appropriate administrative action in accordance with extant laws. Speaking on the operation, the Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commended the troops and collaborating security agencies for their professionalism and vigilance. He also urged residents to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious activities and individuals to relevant security agencies. The commander disclosed that operatives dismantled a robbery syndicate known for disguising themselves as visitors before attacking residents, forcing victims to transfer money electronically and stealing their vehicles . [ONE KILLED AND ANOTHER INJURED BY A MOB IN A STOCKTHEFT RELATED INCIDENT] Police at Verena are investigating a stock theft related incident whereby two male persons were reportedly cornered and assaulted by an unidentified group of people after being reportedly found with livestock believed to have been stolen. One of the alleged suspects died whilst the other one sustained some injuries. The incident occurred in Verena on Wednesday, 24 December 2024. According to a report, Police as well Medical Emergency Services were called to the scene, and it was during this period when one of the men was pronounced dead, while the other was taken to the hospital for treatment. He is currently hospitalized under Police guard. The incident is believed to be linked to stocktheft incident, where 26 cattle, six goats, and a donkey were reportedly stolen from a certain farm in Verena. The Police investigation indicates that a shepherd was attacked earlier that day then robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. Thereafter, the suspects are believed to have fled the scene in two bakkies with trailers when their vehicles got stuck in the mud, leading to their capture and attack by the mob. Two bakkies were also torched during the incident.
