Video simulations compare the formation and effects of an explosively formed projectile (EFP) versus an explosively formed jet (EFJ). Each is a type of shaped-charge with a metal liner, but with differently formed hollows of the explosive charge.

Science is cool.

Would be interesting to create a handheld gun that is working on this principle.

Unfortunately it would blow your hand off.

Does an EFP or a EFJ have more standoff range? And is the range of the EFP/EFJ determined by the diameter of the charge cylinder?

An EFP has much more standoff range. The ratio of the charge mass to the metal liner mass has the most effect on range. Once optimized, further charge mass doesn’t add much further range, which is inaccurate beyond a certain distance anyway (tens to 100s of meters max)
