Even if Harrison Smith isn’t quite what he once was on the field, you literally couldn’t ask for a better leader/person in the locker room. Especially for the new/younger guys. He’s the epitome of the Minnesota Vikings culture and a perfect model of what it means to be a Viking.

Jed York was asked if he feels like he owes it to the core of 49ers that are 30+ years old, to be active in free agency to try and “go for it” since they sat out free agency last year: “I think we always go for it. Free agency — I don’t know that it’s all cracked up to be. If there’s somebody we think is an impact player, we’ll add that person. Trent Williams was a third round trade. Not a massive decision to go make that trade, but a massive impact to our team. I don’t know what the haul of picks there were that we traded for Christian McCaffrey, but we traded a lot of picks. When those type of things come up, we will do what we can to add impact players to our roster. I thought they nailed Brock Lesnar’s retirement. There was no big pomp and circumstance leading up to it. Oba Femi wins. He looks like a superstar. Brock’s emotional—takes off the gloves, takes off the shoes. There were talks of Brock retiring in Minnesota, but I hope that’s not the case because that was perfect. That felt like a fight. It really is like when you come in it’s the end of the season, you gearing up for a playoff run. And then you go down your two other two best players. It’s mentally draining. Like if I’m in that locker room, I’m like I’m looking around I got to do this myself at 41. It’s so draining on me mentally for him that I would really seriously contemplate retirement…. I can’t come back and go through this another year with the Lakers. That’s just mentally draining. It’s mentally draining on him, his mind and his body now.
