Virginians deserve better. Kids in elementary school are afraid to get on their bus, neighbors fear being targeted at the grocery store, and workers aren’t showing up to their jobs. That is the reality we are facing in Virginia and across the country and it has to change. That’s why I signed bills into law to ban law enforcement officers from wearing masks or face coverings to conceal their identities while on duty in Virginia, and why I issued an executive order to ban ICE officers from using state property to stage immigration enforcement.

Today, I joined Congresswoman Goodlander Maggie Goodlander in a Concord, NH backyard with neighbors. We discussed how families in the area feel financially squeezed and struggle to pay their rent, mortgage, and other bills. Families are taking money out of their 401Ks just to make it to the end of the month. That’s so wrong on so many levels. Meanwhile, the children of wealthy parents are attending weekend seminars to learn how to manage their inheritance. Think about that for a second. To fix our broken politics, we need to give more Americans a path to a middle class life: a path to homeownership, a path to affordable healthcare, a path to quality education for their children, and a path to a secure retirement.
