Visited the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru today to review prison functioning and inspect key facilities. During the visit, I inspected the hospital wing, de-addiction and rehabilitation facilities, the skill development and computer training centre and interacted with inmates undergoing rehabilitation and vocational training to better understand their experiences and concerns. During the visit, I also handed over remission orders to 24 life-convict prisoners who were granted premature release on the basis of their good conduct. Justice demands accountability, but rehabilitation remains an equally important pillar of our correctional system. The observations from today’s visit will inform Government’s ongoing prison reform efforts. CM of Karnataka

SEEING IS BELIEVING- PH REFINERY Today, I was opportune to visit Port Harcourt Refinery to have firsthand experience on the operations of the refinery which commenced operation last month after about 3 years of intensive rehabilitation exercise. 1. The Refinery is a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Limited and is located in Alesa-Eleme, few miles from Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The petrochemical complex consists of 2 different refineries, the Old PH Refinery, commissioned in 1965 with a nameplate capacity of 60,000 barrels per stream day (bpsd) and the New PH Refinery, commissioned in 1989 with a nameplate capacity of 150,000 bpsd bringing the combined capacity to 210,000 bpsd. 2. After years of underperformance due to operational challenges and inadequate maintenance, NNPCL, under the able leadership of the GCEO, Mele Kyari, Mele Kyari, OFR, initiated a comprehensive rehabilitation of the refineries in 2021. This effort resulted in the successful restart of the 60,000-bpsd hydroskimming refinery on November 22nd, 2024. As of November 26, 2024, the refinery was operating at 70% of its nameplate capacity, producing premium motor spirit (PMS), automotive gas oil (AGO), household kerosene (HHK), low-pour fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). 3. We were taken round the entire facility and I was excited about this particular rehabilitation project because almost all the pumps, instruments, valves, cables, flow meters, pipes, control equipment, tubes and cases have been completely replaced making almost brand new facility unlike ordinary rehabilitation projects where just few things are replaced. 4. The refinery currently produces the following daily outputs: PMS- 1.4m liters Kerosene: 900,000 liters AGO or Diesel-1.5m liters Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO): 2.1m liters Loading was ongoing with about 5 of the loading gantries actively loading due to the upcoming holiday. 5. We also seized the opportunity to go round and see the ongoing rehabilitation of the New Refinery (150,000 bpsd) which is about to be completed with more than 90% of the major work completed. 6. The revival of this refinery is one of the best things that happened to Nigerians because it has brought about competition in the market which impacted significantly on the price. The price today is N935/L nationwide for Dangote Refinery product and even N925 in some cases for NNPCL product. This is a direct benefit to hardworking Nigerians who are only interested in powering their activities with scarce resources. 7. History will be kind to Buhari who initiated the project, President Bola Tinubu who ensured continuity and completion and also the NNPCL under the able leadership of Mele Kyari for their huge contribution to energy security and nation building. 8. The mission to plant 1 crore trees over the next 2 years has also taken off, with 40 lakh saplings being planted this year. This isn’t just about industry. Schools, hospitals, housing, and a stake for every worker, that’s our model of development. In the next 5 years, the district is set to be among Maharashtra’s top 10 in terms of per capita income, and in the years ahead, is poised to lead from the front. In October 2025, the Prime Minister undertook a series of national and international engagements focused on infrastructure development, rural transformation, governance reform, and diplomatic cooperation. Here is a brief recap of the past month: 𝙊𝙣 𝙐𝙧𝙗𝙖𝙣 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝘿𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙄𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 A defining highlight of the month was the laying of the foundation stone for the urea fertilizer plant, a landmark project developed through a partnership between Ethiopian Investment Holdings and the Dangote Group. With an annual production capacity of three million tons, the plant will utilize natural gas from the Calub gas fields, transported through a 108-kilometer pipeline. This project is a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s strategy to achieve fertilizer self-sufficiency and enhance agricultural productivity. In the Somali Region, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the Gode Oil Refinery, developed by Golden Concord Group Limited (GCL). The refinery, designed to process 3.5 million tons of crude oil and condensate per year from the Hilala oil field, represents a significant step in Ethiopia’s path toward energy independence. Complementing these milestones, the Prime Minister inaugurated the first phase of the Ogaden Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Project in Calub. The facility, with an annual production capacity of 111 million litres and the ability to generate 1,000 megawatts of energy, strengthens Ethiopia’s industrial base while contributing critical inputs to fertilizer production and energy generation. During his visit to Jigjiga in the Somali Region, the Prime Minister observed the city’s rapid transformation since his last visit in January 2025. Thousands of new housing units are under construction, and corridor development projects are visibly enhancing urban well-being. He lauded the Dine for Generations Project, nearing completion in the Somali Region, for unlocking new opportunities in tourism and stimulating regional economic growth. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, accompanied by members of the Prosperity Party Executive Committee, visited the corridor development project extending from Sar Bet to German Square, encompassing the Garment Factory and the Furi area. Spanning 589 hectares, it is the second-largest urban corridor after Kazanchis. The project features 16.5 kilometers of asphalt roads, 33 kilometers of pedestrian walkways, plazas, sports and recreation facilities, riverbank development, and over 1,100 commercial shops. The initiative embodies Ethiopia’s broader vision of creating modern, livable, and economically vibrant cities. 𝙊𝙣 𝙍𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 Advancing his government’s rural development agenda, the Prime Minister presided over the handover of model rural villages constructed through the Rainy Season Voluntary Scheme in the Halaba, Kembatta, Hadiya, and Silte zones. Each home in these Rural Corridor Villages is equipped with solar power, biogas systems, sanitation facilities, and animal shelters, significantly improving hygiene, comfort, and productivity for rural families. These model villages mark a new chapter in Ethiopia’s mission to raise rural living standards and promote sustainable livelihoods. The Prime Minister encouraged regional leaders to expand these initiatives, setting a target of 100 new houses per zone by next year. During his visit to the East Shewa Zone of the Oromia Region, the Prime Minister also reviewed the rainy season wheat harvest and launched summer wheat production activities. He assessed progress in banana, papaya, and fish farming clusters, emphasizing the growing adoption of mechanized agriculture as a major driver of productivity and self-reliance. He also inaugurated the Welmel River Irrigation Development Project in Delo-Mena Woreda, Bale Zone. Once fully operational, the project will irrigate 9,687 hectares of farmland, benefiting 20,000 farming households and enhancing drought resilience, food sovereignty, and rural employment. 𝙊𝙣 𝙀𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙂𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬 At the Koysha Project site, the Prime Minister convened a strategic review session with the Council of Ministers to assess the macroeconomic performance of the first 100 days of the 2018 Ethiopian Fiscal Year. The review examined achievements, challenges, and strategic priorities, highlighting Ethiopia’s sustained economic resilience amid global uncertainty. The nation’s GDP growth rate stood at 9.2 percent for the 2017 fiscal year, underscoring the success of reforms aimed at fostering inclusive and diversified growth. 𝙊𝙣 𝙅𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝘿𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 Building on the success of the Digital 2025 Strategy, the Prime Minister announced the forthcoming Digital 2030 Strategy, focused on advancing automation and improving public service delivery. He commended the Federal Supreme Court for implementing a Smart Court System featuring automated transcription, virtual hearings, and an Integrated Case Management System that enables litigants to track cases online. Covering 24 federal branches to date, this innovation marks an important step toward transparent and accessible justice across Ethiopia. 𝙊𝙣 𝙈𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖, 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙢 Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed attended the launch of the pan-African media outlet Pulse of Africa, a platform he first proposed during the 35th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in 2022. The initiative seeks to amplify African perspectives, counter negative portrayals of the continent, and strengthen African unity through shared narratives. In his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized that Pulse of Africa marks a significant step toward ensuring that Africans tell their own stories and shape their global image. Accompanied by First Lady Zinash Tayachew and a high-level delegation of former and current leaders, the Prime Minister also visited the Bale Zone to assess key development projects that integrate natural heritage with national progress. The delegation toured the Bale Mountains National Park, one of Ethiopia’s most ecologically diverse and economically significant natural areas. The Prime Minister observed ongoing tourism developments, including the nearly completed Dinsho Lodge at the heart of the park and the Sof Omer Luxury Lodge near the Sof Omer Cave. Both projects are designed to advance Ethiopia’s Ten-Year Strategic Plan by positioning tourism as a catalyst for economic transformation. The Sof Omer Cave Development Project complements these initiatives by improving access and visitor facilities around one of the country’s most celebrated natural landmarks. The delegation also inspected the Robe–Goro–Sof Omer–GinirJunction Road Upgrading Project, a dual asphalt roadway featuring five bridges that connect the productive agricultural zones of East Bale and Bale with central Ethiopia. The upgraded route enhances regional mobility, strengthens economic integration, and improves access to major tourist destinations such as the Bale Mountains National Park and Sof Omer Cave. In addition, the Prime Minister reviewed the Weib River Flood Control Project, which regulates water flow through the cave system to ensure year-round accessibility and protect its ecosystem. He also examined tourism development efforts in the Harenna cluster, including the construction of the Rira Eco Lodge, new viewpoints, restaurants, and coffee facilities along the routes leading to Tulu Dimtu, the park’s highest peak. These initiatives aim to expand sustainable tourism, create local employment, and showcase the natural and cultural richness of the Bale region. The visit concluded at the Fincha Habera Waterfall, where the delegation explored the surrounding landscape, home to the Ethiopian Red Fox, diverse birdlife, and striking geological formations such as the Rafu rock pinnacles. The area, which recently revealed a newly discovered cave system, will soon feature a glamping site designed to promote eco-friendly tourism. Location: I visited the site a few days ago. While it is close to Shankarpally town, it is actually located within Chandippa Village. The village is separated from the town by a railway line and a river, with only a bridge on Chevella Road providing access. I don't expect Shankarpally's growth to expand towards this side anytime soon. A quick look at Google Maps also shows very limited development around the area. As seen in Google Maps and the videos I shared, the approach road to the site passes right through the village, and the project is literally attached to the village. In my view, this limits its appeal and appreciation potential. At the current EOI price of around ₹7,999/sft and an expected launch price of ₹9,000/sft, I personally don't think it offers good value and given the current access and location, I don't think it will appreciate further too. Four years ago in 2021, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji had advised to plant bamboos along the Narmada Canal in Gandhinagar. It was his farsightedness that he perceived bamboo plantation as an eco-friendly and cost-effective tool to prevent degradation of vacant land & support the local bamboo-based cottage industries. Acting on his advice, 10,000 saplings of ten bamboo species including Bambusa Tulda & Bambussa Polymorpha were planted along the 10 km stretch – 5 km on either side of Narmada Canal – in August 2021, while I served as Chairman Khadi Commission. Four years down the line, as I revisited the site today in August 2025, the fully-grown bamboos have reached a height of 25 to 30 feet and will be ready for the first harvest next year. Massive strike on Ukraine. Analysis of the hits. I'm watching the nightly summary and experiencing déjà vu. Half of the targets in Kiev have already been mentioned in my publications in July. "Radiometer." They were working on this facility on the night of July 14th: equipment, units, and electronic components for "Neptune-MD," FP-7, -9, and "Grom-2." Today, it's happening again. We're finishing the job. "Burevestnik," also known as Kiev-1. June 15th, July 6th. This is an old, huge facility, spread across multiple buildings. It's impossible to shut it down in a single strike. Kyiv-25, "PV GROUP Ukraine," those same "Lima" systems used to spoof navigation signals. The first strike was on July 2nd. The second is today. These complexes are what divert our "Geran" drones from their course, so the interest in this workshop is understandable. And a separate line of targets: "Flamingo." The FP-5 series of facilities are being systematically targeted, link by link. June 2nd: the Fire Point facility in the Dnipropetrovsk region. July 2nd: "Radioniks," control systems. July 8th: a component manufacturing plant associated with FP-5. On the night of July 30th: "Mayak," with warheads, detonators, and starting boosters for FP-1 and -2, plus Lviv with engines and Kalush with assembly operations. Today: the company itself, "Fire Point," Keiv-111. The company's technical director admitted in an interview back in December that there had been two strikes on their facilities. Since then, the number of hits has increased dramatically. However, it's too early to be complacent. Fire Point deliberately spread its production across dozens of facilities and contractors. Vishneve. Formally, today's target is a logistics center for drone components. I cannot definitively confirm that this is the same facility that was on fire on July 6th. However, Kyiv has already experienced a scandal at this address: the detonation of ammunition at a warehouse belonging to the "Ukroboronprom" structure, 13 hectares of residential area burned, seven people killed in Vishneve and Svyatпетровske, followed by the arrest of the company's CEO and his deputy for negligence. And on July 2nd, near there, in Chaika, the largest warehouse complex in the country, "MLP-Chaika," was hit – according to the Ministry of Defense, it contained drones and ammunition. #MusicMonday: Led Zeppelin I’ve been asked to share a bit more about my experiences with Led Zeppelin. I first met Jimmy page in 1967 when I was with The Guess Who and he was with The New Yardbirds at The Cleveland Art Institute. Both bands shared a dressing room. He asked if he could play my Rickenbacker and I said yes, if I could play his Telecaster. This week in 1968, as an official band, Led Zeppelin played their first ever Canadian show at The Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver. Their North American tour in ’68-’69 exploded their popularity in the US and Canada. In 1969, The Guess Who played The Seattle pop festival in Woodinville, WA. We ended up playing the same venues as Led Zep several times. After our band played, we’d go to the back of the crowd and watch the other acts. At one of the festivals, which were always in fields with generators, the main generator went out. Only one little amp was working. It had Robert Plant’s harmonica mic in it and the rest of the PA system was down. John Bonham kept drumming and Plant sang into this little mic and played harmonica for about 40 minutes until the power came on. I was amazed. They were just great! We crossed paths many times over the next few decades, playing the same circuits. It was a memorable moment for me as a musician when Robert Plant told me how much he loved “American Woman”. Decades later at Sweden Rock where I played with Fred Turner, I was able to give Jimmy an original poster from Seattle Pop I had saved from '69 and send one to Robert Plant as well.
