Funny how equations seem to echo. For instance, take 53². And treat 50 as "a", and 3 as "b". 50²=2500 and 3²=9 and 2(50x3) = 300, or 2500+300+9 = 2809. Can do that in your head.

Damn it, all my teachers just said 'memorize it', It’s actually super easy once you understand.

Why is b bigger than a?

This is not a proof. It just shows that, if you put the squares in that position the formula is correct. But nothing is said, or proven, on how you should position the two squares.

They never taught this way to us in schools..!

This is how it is explained in Montessori method. In fact children start to play with a binomial and trinomial cubes from preschool. Binomial cube is presentation of (a+b)^3. And there is square version shown on the lid of the cube’s box. Trinomial represents (a+b+c)^3.
