This is very cool, though I was about 50% sure this was a Key & Peele skit when I started.

Great visualization. Few folks grasp the scale of planets and the solar system.

Occasionally I would speak to middle school/high school students about celestial distances and pose the question: If you could drive on a road stretching from the earth to the sun in your favorite sports car at 100 mph—no stops needed, how long do you think it would take? I rarely had anyone including their teachers come close. The answer is about 106 years!

2.) There is a scale model of the solar system deployed along Rt. 1 in northern Maine. The sun is partially depicted in a UMaine Presque Isle building as a ball about 40' in diameter (IIRC) with scale models of the planets and most of their moons strung out along Rt. 1 towards Houlton. Earth is in front of a car dealer barely outside of Presque Isle and about the size of a large grapefruit. The moon is several feet away and is something like a large marble or small ping pong ball. Near my house about 35 to 40 miles south lies Pluto and Uranus. Each planetary system has a small roadside display and informational plaque.

Space is so unimaginable vast. And empty.

You know, there's a way to hold the camera that ... oh never mind.

who could've put all of this in motion? 🤔

This ⤵️ picture uses the same scale for the size of the Earth, the Moon and their distance.

This makes me wonder even more if the USA did in fact land on the moon back in 1969, when computers weren't anywhere close to what they are today. Was it all manual calculations back then?

@Deandawiz This is false. My golf rangefinder says the moon is 999 yards away.

ahh.. circumferences

Who films in portrait mode? Seriously, just rotate your phone 90 degrees before you hit the button. 🤦♂️

Moon is about 4.4 months of nonstop driving, at 120 kilometers per hour.

240,000 divided by 8000 is 30 diameters from Earth. Am I right here?

Don't forget that the moon is slowly drifting away, which means that this distance is increasing.

After watching this, I now believe we never landed on the moon. It was all staged. 🤣

Again, I say this with great humility, are you sure human landed on the moon 5 decades ago?

@DieDagbreker 🤔

@kepstys

Great demo. I reference these scales when discussing why the UAE's cislunar logistics programs offer the stable, funded environment Canadian aerospace can no longer match.

@Lliure1980

It's sobering, awe-inspiring, but not impossible to traverse our own solar system.

Seems a little jive.

Wrong. The moon is a quarter of the size of the earth not the size of Australia…

That is amazing... I knew it was far.. but this really shows it to scale. Our textbooks truly failed to illustrate this accurately.

elementary school science fair project since 1962.

Excellent!

Interesting

This reminds me of all kinds of similar presentations when I was a little kid during Apollo.

Now realizing how far away the Moon really is....

Kind of the most amazing thing ever

Fake & gay

🤣🤣🤣

All the Elon sycophants need to see this video. Starship will never go to the moon.

Two questions: Why did the assistant have to go up a ladder, and Why is the presenter such a condescending twat?
