OBED SILAHLIWE, HEIDELBERG: Residents of Obed Silahliwe in Heidelberg are pleading for urgent law enforcement intervention amid escalating tensions over housing allocations. According to the community, lawful beneficiaries who were officially allocated RDP houses by the housing department have already occupied their homes. However, it is alleged that contractors involved in the project are attempting to place their own people into houses that have already been allocated. Residents claim groups have been mobilised to intimidate and forcibly remove families from their homes, leaving them homeless. The situation has reportedly been ongoing for some time and tensions are now at breaking point. Community members say SAPS has visited the area and spoken to both parties, but no resolution has been reached. Residents now fear violence after allegations that contractors plan to return tomorrow to forcibly evict occupants. Elderly residents and vulnerable families are among those affected. Community members also report hearing gunshots at night, which they believe are acts of intimidation and fearmongering. A court application has already been lodged, and residents are calling for authorities to deploy law enforcement to the area to prevent violence and protect the community until the legal process is concluded. Residents say they fear for their lives and are urgently appealing for intervention before the situation escalates further. SA Police Service 🇿🇦

VIDEO: Residents rescue man gagged by wife, sons over pension dispute Residents of Oko-Filling, a serene neighborhood in Araromi, Ijoko, Sango Ota, came to the rescue of a man who had been bound, gagged and left for death by his wife and children following a dispute over his retirement benefits. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, March 13, at the family’s residence. The conflict began when the man reportedly refused to hand over the entirety of his retirement payout to his wife and four sons. After receiving the money, he used a portion to open two shops for his wife in Abule after giving her N3 million. He also bought a N12 million car for himself while the family already owned a home in the area. However, his wife and sons, who are all university graduates, expressed dissatisfaction with the distribution of the funds and attempted to pressure him for more. The situation took a darker turn when the man sold the newly purchased vehicle shortly after acquiring it, raising suspicions among neighbors. A local landlord, who spoke to The Nation, revealed that the man was later discovered in his home with his mouth, hands, and feet bound. "He was tied like an animal to be slaughtered. They (his wife and kids) got some Aboki men, about six of them to tie him up. It was the strange noise from their parking that alerted residents who gathered in front of the house to know what was happening. "Landlords in the area who could not endure the noise at that hour, decided to go out and find out what was wrong. When they got to his compound, they saw a Korope (small bus) outside packing properties. "His wife and sons were the ones packing and so, the residents asked after the man. When the response given was not satisfactory, they forced themselves inside the house and saw the man completely bound with the Aboki people still inside the house, as though they were waiting to kill him. "The man was untied and rushed to the hospital. He's still at the hospital receiving treatment. The suspects were all taken to the police station. One of the Aboki men confessed it was the man's wife that contracted them to tie him up. They were all taken to the police station that morning," said the landlord. 👮🏾‍♀️🚔 || KZN police have thanked businessman Calvin Mathibeli for inviting them to probe his business affairs, including a Gauteng Health tender. This comes after a social media post, where he makes a number of allegations about the SAPS in the province following a raid at his premises. A statement from the provincial commissioner’s office says: “What Mr Mathibeli does not know is that the operation at his business premises was a Head Office operation and police in KwaZulu-Natal had nothing to do with it. Mr Mathibeli seems to have an obsession with police in KwaZulu-Natal and particularly, the Provincial Commissioner. Police in KwaZulu-Natal will now seek legal recourse against Mr Mathibeli for his image-tainting utterances. Mr Mathibeli even quoted what Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi said in his evidence at the Madlanga Commission that he was minding his business in KwaZulu-Natal when he learnt of the disbandment of the PKTT and started paying attention. Now that Mr Mathibeli has introduced himself to the police in KwaZulu-Natal, his utterances were simply an invitation to police in KwaZulu-Natal to start looking into his business dealings, and police have learnt that he is a beneficiary of a tender with the Department of Health in Gauteng. Police in KwaZulu-Natal will give him the attention he is seeking and get the ball of investigations rolling. Police in KwaZulu-Natal did not know about Mr Mathibeli and his business dealings and police would like to thank him for the voluntary invitation to his business operations. Police in KwaZulu-Natal are working tirelessly to regain the trust that the community must have on the police, and no malicious attack on police will be left unchallenged. Nobody is above the law, and any wrongdoings by police must be reported to the relevant authorities, not a miscalculated smear campaign of disseminating fabricated untruths.” -SAPS - eNCAnews

A 22-year-old woman, an IIT graduate and the daughter of a senior bureaucrat, was found dead at her home in southeast Delhi's East of Kailash area. Police said she was raped before being strangled to death with a phone charger. She was alone at home at the time of the incident. There were no signs of forced entry. Police have arrested a 19-year-old domestic help, Rahul, who had worked at the house and was dismissed over a month ago. "Investigations revealed that he used to play online games and would borrow money from other servants in the vicinity, or from domestic staff working in nearby households, without ever repaying them. This is why he was fired," Joint Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar said. He was arrested from a hotel in the Dwarka area, where he had been hiding. He is being charged with rape, murder and robbery, police said. Rahul was seen in CCTV footage leaving the victim's residence at 6:28 am, police said. According to police, the woman was found by her family members inside the house under suspicious circumstances, after which the authorities were alerted. The victim had completed her schooling at DPS RK Puram and later graduated from IIT Delhi. She was preparing for the UPSC examination. She was also a dancer and had won several awards in dance competitions. Her elder brother holds a senior position in a multinational company, and her mother is a doctor. When police reached Rahul's residence in Alwar, they found that he had previously been involved in a sexual harassment case. Police said the accused arrived in Delhi from Alwar the previous night and is suspected to have entered the house using a spare key. Police said Rahul had been hired with a reference from a superintendent posted at the IRS officer's office.

Just finished Animal Kingdom (2010), I reckon it’s the best Australian film I’ve ever watched. I genuinely reckon this is the movie I would tell foreigners to watch if they want to understand the dark side of Australia. It has everything - disgusting corrupt lawyers, corrupt police, the security forces and state struggling to maintain “social cohesion” in the face of a seething violent underworld. So many incompetent idiots and so many people on the take. It’s so beautifully filmed too. So many stunning shots of gritty Australian suburbia, the kinds of streets I would drive down almost every single day. The streets, the old Australian cars, the dialogue, the cadence of the actors, it’s all just so vividly Australian. It’s amazing to see it on screen. It’s also amazing to witness how much the country has changed in the 15 years since the film was released. To be honest the Australian cityscapes on display in the film are almost unrecognisable today. If you wanted to remake the film in Melbourne today you would have to incorporate streets that look completely like Shenzhen both in terms of population and in terms of the actual urban built environment (skyscrapers, bubble tea shops, Chinese money transmitters, real estate shops). You would have to have vape shops and halal chicken shops and foreign owned convenience stores. The film is so overwhelmingly Anglo Australian that it feels like it could have been set in the 70s. Apart from just a few passing characters the film is almost completely Anglo Australian, specifically dealing with a criminal sub-section of the Anglo Australian underclass. The clash is between the official Anglo Australia - the state and the security forces - and the Anglo Australian underclass struggling against them. I feel like it would be hard to remake a film with these same themes today. It would be like pretending Irish mobsters and Italian gangsters still dominate American crime. Now so much of the violent crime is done by foreign dominated gangs. Even the premise of the film - a rogue paramilitary style section of the police (the Armed Robbery Squad) going wild and carrying out extrajudicial executions against violent criminals - is just bizarre today given the actual state of the criminal justice system in Australia. A significant number of armed robbers in Australia today would be migrant youths who get bail within 24 hours.

Shocking and absolutely disappointing. The Mamata Police can't just mend their ways. Even after the RG Kar and the recent Joynagar incidents, they are reluctant to register cases under appropriate sections of sexual crimes. Yesterday a 9 year old Girl child went missing, who was visiting her maternal grand parents home at Rail Colony under the Farakka Police Station area in Murshidabad district. She went out to play with a few kids. When she didn't return home, her parents went searching for her along with the neighbors. Upon enquiring in the neighborhood, it was found that the girl child was lured by one Dinu Haldar, who took her home offering candy or toy. When the search party reached his home, he initially denied every thing, but upon searching his home, the dead body of the poor girl child was found in a sack. Clothes were stuffed inside her mouth. When her parents went to the Farakka Police Station, the Police as usual tried to bury the matter initially and simply refused to register the case as sexual crime and Murder. They kept the parents waiting for long. They even refused to register the case under POCSO Act. Nilotpal Mishra; Inspector of Police; Farakka Police Station was extremely rude towards the poor family. He kept on threatening them trying to make them toe his line. But the unfortunate parents were very perseverant and the local people also held massive protests outside the Police Station. Ultimately the Police caved in and agreed to register the case as sexual offense and Murder. Why is Mamata Police reluctant to register cases involving Sexual Crimes? Is this a strategy to lower crime rates of the State in the NCRB Data? Pressurizing the Victim's Family who are in great pain is the most horrendous crime. Nilotpal Mishra; Inspector of Police; Farakka Police Station should be suspended immediately.

A Merchant Navy officer was allegedly murdered by his wife and her lover, with his dismembered body sealed inside a plastic drum filled with cement in #UttarPradesh's #Meerut, officials said on Wednesday. The victim, identified as #SaurabhRajput, had recently returned to Meerut from #London, where he was posted. Saurabh, who married #MuskanRastogi in 2016 after a love marriage, was living with her and their five-year-old daughter in a rented house for the past three years. According to the police, Saurabh was last seen on March 4, the day he was allegedly murdered. During interrogation, Muskan and her lover, identified as Sahil Shukla alias Mohit, confessed to stabbing Saurabh to death on March 4. They then dismembered his body, placed the remains in a plastic drum, and filled it with cement to conceal the crime, police said. Shockingly, after committing the murder, Muskan reportedly went on a vacation to a hill station with Sahil. The murder came to light after Muskan's mother approached the police, revealing that her daughter had confessed to the crime. Police arrested both Muskan and Sahil, who led them to the house where the body was hidden. Despite a two-hour effort, police were unable to open the drum due to the hardened cement and had to send it to the mortuary, where the drum was eventually cut open to recover the body. Locals had noticed that Muskan had locked the house and told neighbours that she was going on a trip to #HimachalPradesh with her husband. During this period, she allegedly sent misleading messages from Saurabh's phone to his family to avoid suspicion. Meerut SP City Ayush Vikram confirmed the incident, stating, "We received information about a suspected murder in #IndiraNagar. During investigation, it was found that Saurabh Rajput, working in the Merchant Navy, had gone missing since March 4. On suspicion, we called his wife Muskan and her lover Sahil for questioning. Both admitted to killing Saurabh with a knife and disposing of the body in a cement-filled drum". A large crowd gathered outside the house as police retrieved the drum. The remains have been sent for post-mortem, and both accused have been arrested. A case has been registered under relevant sections based on the family's complaint. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
