#VRChat guide on how to reduce download size and texture memory by optimizing textures. Super easy to do by literally anyone, with minimal effort. The jist is, REDUCE TEXTURE SIZES! most of your textures are probably wayyyy larger than is needed. Part 1/2

Part 2/2

life can be this easy

I have gotten avatars down to medium rank just from doing this. A lot of clothing assets have the textures at 4k when its really not necessary.

yea so many sold assets, especially clothing neglect to optimize textures

where good UV layouts come to shine

u can click thry tab at the top there, > avatar > vram then slide your model into it and it will show u all the texture on your model your vram usage and lets u click on the textures vs manually going through materials thry comes with poiomi and u can see mesh vram usage to

here's another really easy fix: you don't need 50 fucking materials for a single model, 4 is more than enough for like 90% of your stuff, 4 materails with 4k maps will give you all the detail you need if your unwrap isn't shit

You should also recommend this utility I like it for merging meshes and creating a giant Atlas texture map.

What do the VRC devs think the minimum requirements for VR are anyway. The limits and recommendations they have seem odd. I am almost willing to bet if I imported an Xbox 360 era model into the game it would say it's either poor or very poor.

This is awesome, I never knew and now I can make things better. Will you be doing another one on how to optimize polygons easily?
