Wait... I'm confused🤔 Rudeus has been casting magic without chanting for so long, but in this scene he actually had to chant before using his spell. Did I miss something, or is there a reason for it? Someone explain this because it's got me scratching my head. #MushokuTensei

He silent casts spells he’s familiar with. Newer ones will require he use the full incantation until he gets more practice. He also can’t silent cast if he can’t grasp the fundamentals behind the spell. Which is why he can’t silent cast healing.

Guess i expect the impossible thinking he could do for the first time without chanting the spell

Explained in the first episodes of the series. He needs to be able to imagine the spell, but if he doesnt execute it once with incantation he cant imagine it in his brain and execute it without incantation

To use a spell with no chant, a mage must first fully understand how the spell itself actually work. Since this is Rudeus's first time using the spell, of course it makes sense that he wouldn't be able to use it without a chant

In Season 1 Episode 1 and 2, he always chants first all the spells he learned. We saw in that episodes that he learned chantless casting by mimicking the flow of mana he felt when he first casted the spell via chanting.

Rudeus learned to use silent magic by feeling and replicating the flow of mana in his body. That's also how he changes and empowers his basic spells. At this point he doesn't know how this spells mana flow or principles work, so he is using the chant to learn and understand it.

He's on hell of a genius tho, he's still plenty powerful to me

He can do magic without chanting, but it doesn't mean he can't chant, I he only does voiceless casting when he cast that particular spell hundreds of times and he kind of casts it on autopilot, by feel, it's explained in the first episode

He needs to understand the spell first and the process behind it to be able to do it chantless. That's why he never learns chantless healing magic

So 2 situations. When Rudy uses silent casting, he’s casting raw mana. Depending on the spell; it will either cast faster but weaker; or slower but stronger. Usually at random. 2. When he speaks the incantation, it allows him to have total control so he can use any spell safely.

So in other words,it makes the spell more powerful if he chants before casting

But more controlled. So it won’t go awry.

He could silent cast Cumulonimbus, But since lightning's Incantation is like a follow up chant to Cumulonimbus, and this is his first try, he follows what Roxy did. Plus he hasn't improve his magic before this, nor uses this kind of spells often in his life.

Chanting is a type of self hypnosis, it's a focus and forms the mental image of the spell. A tradition king tier spell is likely more complex than what rudy uusesso useing the chant could be considered training wheels. The sell he used on badigadi was also likely king grade

Think of magic like cycling. You need those training wheels until you learn to cycle properly right? That's what chanting is for Rudy. For others the wheels never come off.

He memorizes the way the spell feels and all that, then when he cast it as long as he remembers he can cast without an incantation

King tier magic, a level above what he's used to casting, so he needed to chant to focus so to speak. Once he gets used to it he should be able cast it w/o the chant

First time he cast it and he has to chant some other spells he's not acvostumed to use too, like healing magic

He can do chantless if he truly understands the spell. This is why he still needs to chant when using new spells first. And why he can never do healing magic without chant.

Mana flow in MT must connect with spells. That's why Rudeus needs to chant spells for healing and summoning magic. And also for new advanced spells, he must chant and practice the spell.

maybe he only can cast like low tier spells without chanting. thats why he only use that rock bullet bcs its effective and does not look like hightier magic at all.
