Wait… now that Elon made it clear the priority is Moon over Mars… does this mean that once we have a city/base on the Moon, the launch cadence changes? Like, would the 26-month Earth-to-Mars window be less, since missions could go from the moon?

Elon, there’s a lot of people saying SpaceX is deprioritizing Mars this Earth-Mars launch window and focusing on the moon instead. I don’t really trust this, unless I hear it from the source. Can you shed some insight on what the plan is? Thanks!

🚨🇺🇸 ELON: Let's make Moon Base Alpha real! “We could do very cool things like have a moon base, like Moon Base Alpha. Long ago, there was a TV show about Moon Base Alpha. You couldn't think about the physics of that too much because apparently the moon base was like drifting away from Earth. But anyway, we should have a Moon Base Alpha, which is the next step after the Apollo program, to have a base on the moon. You could have a gigantic science station doing research about the nature of the universe on the moon. It would be very cool.” SpaceX Elon Musk

ELON MUSK: "We can make a moon base, and I think it'll be pretty cool if you could have a vacation on the moon, like that would be the most epic vacation. I think that will be possible in the future. And then Mars is another step beyond that. Mars is a whole planet, and with gravity much closer to that of Earth, and it has an atmosphere, and if you warm up Mars, you could one day make Mars like Earth, meaning with like liquid oceans and life, and where you could walk outside without a spacesuit type of thing."

"For those unaware, SpaceX has already shifted focus to building a self-growing city on the Moon, as we can potentially achieve that in less than 10 years, whereas Mars would take 20+ years. The mission of SpaceX remains the same: extend consciousness and life as we know it to the stars. It is only possible to travel to Mars when the planets align every 26 months (six month trip time), whereas we can launch to the Moon every 10 days (2 day trip time). This means we can iterate much faster to complete a Moon city than a Mars city." -Elon Musk Grok Imagine 1.0

Elon Musk on why the Moon might come before Mars: “You don’t necessarily have to go through the Moon to get to Mars. But I think we can build a self-growing city on the Moon faster than we can on Mars” The Moon has major advantages for scaling AI in space: Because it has no atmosphere and only one-sixth of Earth’s gravity, you can use a mass driver (railgun) to literally shoot AI data centers into deep space - no rockets required You can also manufacture solar panels and radiators directly from Moon materials. This could allow scaling to over 1,000 terawatts per year of AI compute - compared to roughly 1 terawatt per year if launching everything from Earth Mars remains the ultimate goal - a whole planet with Earth-like gravity and a thin atmosphere that could one day be warmed up to have oceans and walkable surfaces without spacesuits But the Moon could be the faster stepping stone to build massive infrastructure in space

"It’s crazy that we went to the moon over fifty years ago A lot of people think we didn’t go to the moon, but we did. The Soviets would have called us out on that one 100% if we hadn’t We shouldn't just go back to the moon we should have a moon base like Moon Base Alpha an actual base with a science station. That would be sick I think we want to become a multi-planet species and be out there among the stars. We want to make Star Fleet real" - Elon Musk

🇺🇸 Elon: “We've got to get back to the Moon and build a base there, a science base…” making it a real hub for research and future missions. Moon as the hub, Mars second. The Moon just stopped being a pit stop.
