Walking out on a land acknowledgement.

There is nothing more pointless, IMHO. No one is going to actually DO anything, and we keep filling this country with several hundred thousand "new Canadians" every year, so why bother pretending we care about who's land it is?

Drive by a Reserve and see how they treat the Land. And then ask to see where the Band Leader lives.

@Martyupnorth_2 My native children laugh at this, they think it's utterly stupid and doesn't help them at all.

They're also just straight up performative hypocrisy. If you really believe it's their land, give it back, or shut up. Anything less is just gaslighting.

The way to heal historical grievances is to stop talking about them. None of us were there. Learn the lessons and recommit to treating everyone with respect. That’s all.

Thank you Jim for standing up for the rights of all Canadians. You have a quiet respectful demeanor that stands above the rest. While I agree more noise needs to be made on this issue sometimes it’s the quiet protest that speaks loudest as the noisy ones will get shut down.

The problem with land acknowledgments is that they are mandatory, performative but usually hollow, like Soviet citizens applauding Stalin.

Land acknowledgement now on bottom of every blood test you get back from LifeLabs online.

Some children who take words literally believe and fear that the land under their own homes will be taken from them. I have heard that fear expressed by a child who is compelled to say those words every morning in school.

Based.
