Re any discussion of Islam vs. the West, one needs to commence with the main principle: governance. ⬇️ The core problem is that Western and Islamic conceptions of governance are fundamentally incompatible. Western systems are deliberately designed to divide and disperse power — through separation of powers, checks and balances, federalism, and individual rights. The explicit goal is to make it difficult for any single faction or bad actor to seize total control, and to limit the damage if they do. Islamic political traditions, by contrast, have historically favored the concentration of authority under a unified religious-political leadership, with sovereignty ultimately belonging to God and His law (Sharia) as interpreted by rulers or clerics. Contemporary examples include Iran’s velayat-e faqih system and Hamas’s authoritarian rule in Gaza. These are not outliers. This is not a minor policy disagreement. It reflects profoundly different assumptions about human nature, authority, and the proper organization of society — assumptions deeply rooted in their respective civilizational traditions. Within a single body politic, Western liberalism and political Islam cannot peacefully coexist in the long term. One vision must ultimately prevail. By this point, anyone who still denies the tension is engaging in willful blindness.

Americans need to learn what a waqf is in Islam. What this means is that land dedicated to a religious purpose - a mosque, Islamic center, school, etc. - may be placed in a land trust. To muslims, this land is forever considered muslim land that cannot be sold or given away. It cannot be ruled over or owned by non-muslims. There is an organization that holds the ownership of hundreds of properties.
