The family identified the man as 22-year-old Mahmoud Al-Drimli, who disappeared on November 2, 2024, while attempting to return from southern Gaza to Gaza City. After months of unanswered appeals to the Red Cross and other organisations, his parents said they had received no information about whether he had been detained, killed or was still alive until the image surfaced online. "The moment I saw the picture, my heart was at peace, and I was happy. But at the same time, when I saw him in that state, my heart broke," his mother, Aida Al-Drimli, said through tears.
