Warning: This Carl Sagan explaination has caused existential crises. He explains how 5th dimensional beings perceive 3D creatures, and the implications are so disturbing, I paused it three times. He said: A being from the 5th dimension could reach into your locked house, take an object off your kitchen... table, and place it in orbit around Jupiter without ever crossing a wall, a door, or the vacuum of space. People ridiculed when Carl Sagan said this. But, he was walking through the cleanest piece of geometric logic in modern physics, and most people who watched it never realized what he actually gave them. The demonstration starts small. Imagine a flat creature living on a sheet of paper. Its entire universe is length and width. It has no concept of "up" because up doesn't exist in its world. The direction is literally unthinkable to its nervous system. Now take a three-dimensional apple and push it slowly through the paper. What does the flat creature see? A dot appears from nowhere. The dot expands into a circle. The circle grows, shrinks, then collapses back into nothing. The apple was always whole. The flatlander only ever perceived cross-sections of something its dimensions could not contain. That's the entire trick. Sagan's move was to rotate the analogy upward and let you feel the vertigo yourself. You are the flatlander. Your body, your brain, your sensory apparatus evolved to process three spatial dimensions and one directional slice of time. Anything existing in a higher dimension would pass through your world the same way that apple passed through the paper. As fragments, apparitions, sudden appearances, inexplicable disappearances. A 4D being could see every organ in your body simultaneously from the outside, the way you can see every room of a dollhouse at once from above. A 5D being could observe your entire lifetime from every version of you from infant to corpse like a single unmoving sculpture stretched across time. What's interesting is it's a direct consequence of how dimensions mathematically nest inside one another. Every dimension has full access to the interior of the one below it. A 3D hand can touch any point inside a 2D square without crossing its edges. A 4D hand could touch any point inside your sealed body without breaking your skin. Sagan has really handed us a quiet reframe of every "impossible" phenomenon humans have reported for thousands of years like visions, presences, objects moving through walls, beings that seem to know your past and future. Though his Geometry doesn't confirm any of it. But it removes the argument that such things would violate physics.show more

Yes, it clearly explains the supernatural and is a strong premise for the argument that: 'No one can claim ( from their limited 3 dimensions) that there is no God.' It also matches what God has revealed about Himself in the Bible, that He is the Alpha and Omega. He stands outside of time. Outside of His creation. Far above all that we are or could imagine. A Flatlander would be foolish to insist that reality contains only what can be explained from inside two dimensions. We should be equally careful about assuming that the Creator of space, time, matter and the laws governing them must Himself be confined by space, time, matter and those laws. Scripture made that distinction thousands of years ago: “Behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee.” — 1 Kings 8:27 “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?” — Psalm 139:7 “For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday…” — Psalm 90:4 Higher-dimensional geometry doesn’t prove God exists. But it demonstrates something important: our inability to visualize a mode of existence does not establish its impossibility. A creature living inside creation should be particularly cautious about declaring what the Creator of creation can or cannot be.

Interesting because Sagan's 5D explanation could illustrate why so many Near Death Experience (NDE) retellings include what's called a Life Review. If we arrive at a higher dimension at death, seeing our entire life at once makes sense. Just because we can. For the first time!

Stations transmitted analog radio signals over the air using the NTSC standard (525 scanning lines, roughly 30 frames per second, interlaced). Why would people freak out? If there are intelligent beings in the 5th dimension how would we know they didn’t manipulate Sagan? They’ve likely been doing it and we’ve been just fine. Anyway, you can’t ask a question while you’re inside the simulation bc you can never be certain you won’t get a simulated answer.

Quantum gravity looks like one more field theory. Buried inside is something stranger. Every quantum theory we have puts fields on a fixed stage, flat or curved, and does the physics on top of it. Here the stage itself is the thing being quantized. Your gut reads an atom of spacetime as a tiny grain sitting somewhere. Wrong. It cannot sit anywhere, because it is the somewhere. The move is invisible to human intuition, which is exactly why the people who get anywhere stop asking where the pieces are and start asking what a measurement even means. In 3D the whole thing collapses in a way that should scare you. No matter, no cosmological constant, and gravity is locally flat everywhere. I've become a missionary with one message. Every time I meet a young person, the same words: have children, get married, build a family. I did not decide on this calling. It overtook me. And it overtook me for a single reason. I had no idea. I genuinely did not understand how much joy, how much meaning, how much sheer beauty pours out of a child until I was holding one of my own and felt the floor of my life drop into something deeper than I knew was there. I grew up white, affluent, secular, comfortable, and insulated. That world does not put babies in front of you. None of my friends were starting families. Out of my whole circle, almost no one has a big one. We were not formed by the presence of children. We were formed by their absence, by the strange quiet of homes built for two careers and no cradle. And a person believes what his world shows him. So we believed. What we believed was a lie. It is a lie with an author, and that the author is the enemy of joy himself. It is the gospel of the world, and its commandment is wait. Wait until you are older. Wait until the career is built and the savings are stacked and the twenties are properly spent. Enjoy your freedom. You are not ready. It does not arrive sounding like temptation. It arrives sounding like wisdom, like prudence, like the responsible thing, and that is exactly why it works. The most effective lies are the ones that wear the face of virtue. And the maddening thing is that it collapses from every angle at once. It is not rooted in biology, because the body is made for this work precisely in the years we are told to postpone it. No logic chain. No formula. You knew because you’ve held things. Packed things. Felt the resistance of something too large for the space it was meant to fill. LeCun calls this grounding. “A big object doesn’t fit in a small object.” The machine has read that line a billion times. It has never once picked anything up. It knows the word “big.” It has never been small enough to be lifted, or large enough to be the problem. So when the sentence turns, it has nothing to turn on. As the eaglet grew, the mother would deliberately stir the nest, causing the eaglet to fall. But each time, she would flutter around it, catch it, and lift it back up; repeatedly until the eaglet opened its wings, discovered its potentials, and realized it could fly. Every scientific dataset, every piece of research sitting in a university, every sensor reading off every John Deere tractor in a field. All of it feeds the machine, and almost none of it is visible to us. What comes out is an agentic economy running at machine speed. You plug your data into a vault, and agents monetise it on your behalf, trading with other agents in real time, in a marketplace we never see. The company sitting on proprietary data becomes part of it without even knowing. This is what the Economic Singularity actually looks like from the inside.
