It is so painful that a father and stepmother have been terrorizing this young boy, leaving him with serious injuries one leg broken and a damaged hand. They would tie him up and mercilessly beat him using a pipe. I received a call from Shiku, who had seen the post online, and we joined hands to intervene. The child was successfully rescued, and the culprits were arrested. They are currently being detained at Kasarani Police Station. Many will say that Mosiria is clout chasing, but I want them to understand this: if informing Kenyans and equipping them with such information to create awareness is clout, then so be it. I cannot sit and watch children suffer. This is just one of the many children I have helped rescue from such brutality, often at the hands of those meant to protect them.

This girl used to attend a mosque to learn the Quran. After being beaten by a cleric, she lost her eyesight. Afghan parents often send their daughters and sons to mosques for religious instruction, believing they are giving their children a proper religious education. Yet far too often, what these children are exposed to is not education at all, but physical abuse, humiliation, and, in some cases, sexual violence. At approximately 1:50am past midnight, a 9-year-old child was spotted outside Quickmart Supermarket in Kilimani near Hurlingham, being used by an adult woman to beg for money from members of the public. I approached them with the intention of rescuing the child and taking her to a children’s home for safety. However, the woman-whom the child refers to as her “auntie” quickly lied to her, telling the young girl that I am a bad person. The child, confused and frightened, ran away with her before any help could reach her. Moments earlier, a man had approached us and appeared to have harassed the child earlier , causing her to break down in tears. This is extremely disturbing. No 9-year-old should be exposed to such danger, especially in the middle of the night. This is not ordinary begging. This is child exploitation and endangerment happening openly under our watch. If anyone knows the parents or guardians of this child, please inform them that she is being used to beg for money in Kilimani near Hurlingham, outside Quickmart, late into the night. I urgently call upon the Children protection unit, law enforcement agencies, and all relevant authorities to intervene immediately and secure this child and any other children who may be facing similar abuse. A child belongs in a safe home, in school, and under protection not on the streets at 1:50am begging for survival. This matter requires urgent attention. Let us not look away.

Official Statement: This disturbing video of a detection dog being aggressively pulled by its handler at Detroit Metro Airport has come to my attention. These dogs spend much of their lives keeping travelers and fellow airport staff safe, so this video was very troubling. Since this involved a TSA agent, Detroit Metro has referred this matter to TSA and they are investigating. In response to news reports, TSA has said the employee in the video has been removed from handling duties pending the completion of the investigation. I will continue to monitor this situation. People and families across our region frequent Detroit Metro every day, and it’s important to make sure proper protocols are being followed.
