When they launch a rocket into orbit they know the direction that the satellite needs to orbit and the velocity it needs to be going to maintain orbit. If you launch a rocket straight up then it won’t be able to maintain orbit because it’s not traveling around the sphere at a specific speed to maintain orbit 🤷🏻‍♂️.
