Was the hate justified?

They shouldn’t have rushed release. I’m sure there was some external pressure but if you’re spending years developing in secret you can wait another couple of months for it to be actually good

Agreed. What a beautiful and ambitious device tho with good intentions to correct the screen addiction the founders helped created with Apple devices The execution and marketing failed completely tho

1. Cellular w/ own number --> wifi/bt + smartphone 2. Metal --> plastic (for cost/weight) 3. No laser projector If they'd done all 3 I think Humane would still be around today. They had a great hardware team and a solid vision for the future of ambient compute.

Nope, people's reaction to emerging tech is very very dismissive. It was a v1, had a lot of issues, could've been better. But approaching everything with "If it's not an iPhone why do we need to build it" lens is harmful. :|

no. if it relied less on its GUI interface for 90% of the interaction people would’ve realized the best use case. I wish i could own something like this, easy on/off always on camera with memory recall, access to *insert ai name* live chat

they pushed out a half baked product. the idea wasn't the problem, i think if it launched today, with the llm's of today vs three years ago, and all the bugs ironed out, it would have been successful. btw im curious, is it still functional or practically a brick?

Nope… Should it have baked a bit longer… probably. Lots of hardware coming with similar convulsions… a few might even figure out the “problem” of camera/sight and “phone” Mental note to go charge mine and get PemburaOS on there

Hardware was beautiful. If the laser projector UI could have lived up to the promise this would have been a hit. Physics had other plans :/

The second version should run on local, open weight models - even via BT. That would be a game changer. The finger navigation system is sick though.

I loved the vision. Was a long time supporter since the TED talk reveal and I think it was burned for the wrong reasons and way too harshly at that. Such a shame...
