No one was seriously injured — one pellet hit the teacher after a ricochet, after which the attacker set off a firecracker. The student was detained. Students at St. George’s school in Nairobi are on strike after one of their comrades was assaulted by a teacher for being outside viewing the eclipse. The students slept outside making noise, calling for justice. Police were overwhelmed by the students and could not contain the protest. Parents have arrived at the school in a bid to find a solution but what is clear is that the winds of change are blowing even in schools. The big question is if young girls like these can fight for their rights, what were adults doing at bogus Rhema Festivals pretending to act as if everything is alright?

A little boy was left in tears after telling his teacher he needed the restroom… and being told “No, you should’ve gone during break.” He couldn’t hold it, had an accident in class, and the other kids laughed while he cried. His mom says she’s going inside to confront the teacher. No child should be humiliated like that for a basic human need. Teachers have a responsibility to protect kids, not put them in situations that embarrass them in front of their classmates. And as a parent, I know exactly how fast that protective instinct kicks in. When my middle daughter, who is a Type 1 diabetic, was denied the restroom, I didn’t hesitate — I went to that school and released absolute hell. Honestly, most parents would do the same when their child’s health or dignity is on the line. Should teachers ever be allowed to deny a child the restroom when they say they need it?

Flint Community Schools released a statement saying that the teacher in the video is doing well and has been released from the hospital.
