No one was seriously injured — one pellet hit the teacher after a ricochet, after which the attacker set off a firecracker. The student was detained. The attacker, a student named Vadim, ran a Telegram channel where he openly wrote about his life, complained about pressure from teachers and lack of understanding from classmates, and stated that he felt he had “no choice but to do something bad.” One day before the attack, he posted a song about a school shooting and effectively warned about what was coming. Students at St. George’s school in Nairobi are on strike after one of their comrades was assaulted by a teacher for being outside viewing the eclipse. The students slept outside making noise, calling for justice. Police were overwhelmed by the students and could not contain the protest. Parents have arrived at the school in a bid to find a solution but what is clear is that the winds of change are blowing even in schools. The big question is if young girls like these can fight for their rights, what were adults doing at bogus Rhema Festivals pretending to act as if everything is alright?
