I have to admit, this skit really has grown on me. It was just “ok” the first time insane it, but now to me it has become one of the greatest SNL skits of all time. Not as great as “Fuck your couch Eddie Murphy”, but right up there with the greats.

I will always be immensely grateful for America keeping our old English units safe and in-use for us while we aren’t using them (or most of them). Whenever I visit America I take great joy seeing milk sold in gallons and butter sold in 4oz sticks. These are Anglo units, the measures of a free people. Our language, literature, liturgy, music and idioms would all be immeasurably poorer without them. The obsession with metric among our rulers is a very calculated attempt to cut us adrift from our history to ensure we speak a different language to our ancestors, so that they feel more remote from us. We must resist this. The day will come when we restore them in Britain, and, who knows, possibly even Australia, New Zealand and Canada in good time. Happy 250th birthday America 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
