South African opposition leader Julius Malema of the EFF political party has rejected the ANC’s decision to form a government of national unity, as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Malema tweeted, "We can’t share power with the enemy," after Ramaphosa’s announcement of a GNU involving every political party that won seats in parliament. The enemy is perceived to be the DA, South Africa’s second biggest political party. The EFF came fourth behind Jacob Zuma’s MK party, the DA, and the ANC, but none of them won a full mandate to govern the country. In this video, Malema says he doesn’t want a GNU but a coalition, meaning he prefers a coalition of ideologically aligned political parties. A GNU is also a coalition, but the two terms are being used loosely. A GNU involves all political parties in parliament, while a coalition is often formed between two or more parties with similar ideologies or desired political outcomes. It seems that Malema is more comfortable with the idea of a coalition that aligns with the EFF's political views rather than a GNU that involves parties with opposing political ideologies.
