I drove to 648 Grassmere Park to see it for myself. I had no idea what was about to be built 50 yards from the Nashville Zoo. A data center. Right against the treeline where the animals my kids grew up visiting are kept. I’m not anti-technology… The phone you’re reading this on is tied to one of these somewhere. We all live in this now. But here’s the thing nobody’s telling you: a low hum doesn’t stop at a wall. It goes right through it. And the zoo’s own CEO says it’d sit 50 yards from animals they’ve spent decades trying to protect and breed. No study. No rules. No vote. Just a rushed permit. .Kevin O'Leary aka Mr. Wonderful is right that China is trying to convince America to stop building AI data centers while building tons of its own. That's China's plan to win the AI race and control the next century. But that DOES NOT mean data centers should just drain public power. I'm dead set against any data center that has a SINGLE line feeding them power from the grid. But some are generating their own power and giving the excess TO the grid. Those are two very different scenarios. Thankfully, Kevin O'Leary has said his data center project in Utah will generate its own power. THIS IS A MUST. Just like railroads, factories, oil, and electricity powered previous generations, the future will run on AI computing, powered by massive amounts of energy. We need both to stop China from dominating the world. China knows this and is trying to turn data centers into a boogeyman. There’s evidence out now from the Bitcoin Policy Institute that foreign influence networks are actively feeding this anti-data center movement in the United States. They traced several overlapping campaigns, all aimed at slowing American AI infrastructure down, directly to China. Strong countries build infrastructure. Weak countries fear it. We can't fall for their trap. But we must also build strategically without sacrificing public resources.

President Donald Trump issued an executive order late Thursday night that instructs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to halt all direct federal funding to the nation’s two major public broadcasting networks – the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR). The move will directly affect the roughly 1,500 public media stations nationwide, as well as national programs like the PBS News Hour. Trump also directed CPB – a congressionally chartered, private, nonprofit corporation which provides more than $500 million to local PBS and NPR stations every year – to eliminate indirect government sources of financing for the networks. Patricia Harrison, the president of CPB, said in a statement that the corporation is “not a federal executive agency subject to the president’s authority. Congress directly authorized and funded CPB to be a private nonprofit corporation wholly independent of the federal government.” CPB filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration earlier this week after the White House fired three of the corporation’s board members. The executive order is also expected to be challenged in court. PBS CEO Paula Kerger called Trump’s executive order “blatantly unlawful,” while NPR CEO Katherine Maher said her organization “will vigorously defend our right to provide essential news, information and life-saving services to the American public. We will challenge this executive order using all means available.” The order came on the heels of reports the White House planned to engage Congress in an effort to rescind already distributed funds from the public media networks. It’s unclear at this time if the rescission plan will move forward following Trump’s executive order. Both NPR and PBS are engaged in campaigns to encourage their supporters to lobby Congress to protect federal funding.
