Oregon has one of the shortest school years in the nation. Just over the river in Vancouver, the average K-12 student receives one year more of instructional time than students in our state. A recent poll showed that 80% of Oregonians support requiring local school districts to provide at least the national average of school days. Your kids deserve a world-class education, and on Day One I will work to increase classroom time and give teachers the resources they need so that all Oregon students and teachers can be successful.

NEW: Schools across the country are requiring students to lock their phones in a phone pouch for the entire school day, can unlock the pouch at the end of the day. Teachers and principals say phones in the classroom are becoming too much of a distraction. “The last couple years, we left it up to the teachers to kind of govern their classrooms,” said Danville High School Principal Jacob Bretz. “We were just running into the constant battle that temptation of that phone being accessible in the pocket, wondering do I have a message, feeling the notifications go off and the urge to check them.” Students are required to put all cellphones, ear buds and smart watches in the magnetically locked pouches at the start of the school day. At the end of the school day, the students are allowed to unlock the pouch. Good!

#WATCH | Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal | Mother of the victim says, "My son is six years old and went to school on Friday. When we went to pick him up, he said he had something embarrassing to tell me. Upon reaching home, he revealed that the boys' restroom attendant had closed the door and molested him—he subjected him to oral molestation. He only let go when my son's friend knocked on the door; otherwise, my son was suffocating and could have even lost consciousness. When we complained, the principal simply defended the accused. He neither informed the police nor allowed us to do so, claiming it would bring disrepute to the school. All the parents stood by me; we filed an FIR, and the accused was subsequently arrested. The school took no initiative. All the parents have gathered here to protest against this injustice, and we demand the removal of the principal. Instead of helping, the teachers are making inappropriate remarks; we also demand the suspension of these teachers."

This morning we visited this abandoned Smart School in Ngor Okpala LGA, Imo State to get first hand information on the current state of the school and also chart a way forward. The total budget for this abandoned school was N3.6 billion. It was completed last year. The school was funded by Korean government in partnership with UBEC. 6 of these schools were built in the 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria. This one was built to serve the entire South East region. The reason it was abandoned since last year was because there was no provision for teachers accommodation. It was part of the origin design but the contractor didn't execute that for reasons best known to them. The villagers took up the responsibility to guard the school daily, and that's why not a pin has been stolen in the school yet. Tablets, Smart Boards and other devices are still packed inside IMSUBEB warehouse, because the school is not in use. The school is also not yet connected to the national grid, so no light in the school. They had few solar panels installed though. This school can take 880 students. What they need now is lodge where teachers and corpers can stay so they start operation. The school is inside the bush. What should we do to get this school up and running immediately?

⚠️NEW Karmagawa SCHOOL #122 IS OFFICIALLY OPEN! ⚠️ I am SO proud to announce one more new school grand opening in 2024 as we officially opened The School Of Impact the other day in Bali! It was a very emotional day for all of us ushering in this new school which was funded by the great Lance Breitstein 🇺🇸🌎 and renovated and painted beautifully by BaliChildrensProject so now double the amount of students can attend! Crazy enough, asbestos was found during the renovation, unbeknownst to anyone until we started the construction for the bigger school so sadly this community, along the with the teachers and children, had been inhaling this dangerous chemical for years — this new school couldn’t come fast enough and we’re proud to help while looking forward to opening more schools and libraries in 2025 and beyond! #newschool #givingback #knowledgeispower

Yesterday, Saturday the 8th of August 2026 we had the honour of celebrating the retirement of Principal T.M Khosa, the most distinguished and accomplished Principal of Mahonisi Primary School. Mahonisi Primary School begun its operations in the 1930s and consistly educated the people of Mahonisi and surrounding areas. Principal Khosa worked at the school for 36 years and was Principal for 21 years. She leaves the school in a far much more better and superior condition than when she arrived. During her tenure, she oversaw the building of new classrooms, administration blocks, safe ablution facilities, and qualitatively and quantitatively improved the output of the school. She’s amongst the best women we celebrate during today’s Women’s Day. Happy Women’s Day!

The school principal was calmly hearing their demands, ensuring an inquiry and that all their demands would be fulfilled, and requesting them to end the protest. But at that time, some CJP mafias came and tried to provoke the students not to end the protest but the school principal scolded them and threw them out of the school. It's high time that no government school should allow any outsider to enter the school without permission.

On examination, I found that she had suffered an injury. I complained to the principal, who said she would talk about it. When I took the child to the doctor, the doctor said that whatever the child had said was done to her and something was inserted in her private parts. The school said that complaining would ruin the child's future and the school's reputation, after which they suggested of collectively complaining about the driver... I waited for two days but no action was taken by the school and the driver called again to pick the child for school. When we confronted him, he harassed us in front of the school and made casteist remarks. We were threatened with abduction, even the school also asked us not to complain. I have all the proof.
