#WATCH | Delhi | On Drones and sixth-generation fighter aircraft programmes, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh says, "On the sixth-generation fighter aircraft programmes, there are multi-country programmes ongoing, one involving the UK, Japan, and Italy, and another in which France and Germany were together, although Germany is now no... longer part of it. We had expressed interest in both of those groups of countries because all of them are friendly foreign countries for us. We are veering around to the idea that, now that Germany has left, perhaps the French programme, since we have a large inventory of French aircraft, is something we should examine. We are pursuing discussions with the French, and we'll see how that goes, but we have expressed our interest. On drones, the number and size of the orders are impossible for me to give because a lot of those orders are placed under delegated powers at the command and Vice Chief levels. At the centralised level, there are the larger drone orders. Of course, you are aware of the 31 MQ-9B drones. That's about $3.5 billion, and that order was placed about two years ago. Those are the HALE-class drones. A lot of smaller orders have been placed by all three services under delegated powers. After Operation Sindoor, under emergency procurement as well, significant orders for both drones and counter-drone systems have been placed by the services. We are in the process of trying to ensure that, since drones have a very short technological cycle, there is no point in undertaking multi-year procurement for them. We will try to procure these mostly through the fast-track process..."show more

#WATCH | Delhi | On the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh says, "As of now, we haven't gone, or we haven't taken a decision, to go in for any global or outside fifth-generation fighter aircraft programme. Our programme is AMCA, and AMCA has reached a stage where Requests for Proposals (RFP) have been invited from the shortlisted vendors. They've sought more time because of the complexity and the fact that they are also getting into this space for the first time. We are going to give them some more time. But my understanding is that this is our programme, and we are putting all our eggs in this basket as of now"

ZELENSKYY: Today, Ukraine shot down 388 out of 400 Russian drones. A higher percentage of Russian drones is being intercepted, but Ukrainians are working to further increase that number. Specific solutions for the protection of Odesa and Dnipro have already been developed and will be implemented, as these cities have been especially heavily targeted lately. “This afternoon there was another massive attack by Russian drones. A significant number of more than 400 drones since the morning alone, including more than 200 Shaheds. The density of the attack is high, which is why - despite a high interception rate (388 drones shot down) - there were still strikes in Ternopil, Zhytomyr, Rivne region, Trostyanets, Vinnytsia region, and other regions and our communities. We are strengthening all areas of protection. There is already a decision regarding the protection of the city of Dnipro. The military command and the Ministry of Defense analyze each attack and offer solutions. For Dnipro, we will deploy additional radars, electronic warfare systems, and crews. There is also a solution for Odesa. We are also registering a higher percentage of shootdowns. But we still need to increase it. We are aware that the Russians are trying to bypass our air defense with the density of the attack and the intensity of strikes. We will counteract, but we are aware that we cannot stop there. This is not the result that is needed. Still not enough. We need to further strengthen our cities and villages. And it is important that every day we work with partners to have air defense components against missiles” - Ukrainian president on Friday, May 1st.

#WATCH | On creating a drone force, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh says, "Drones are not revolutionary to the Indian Air Force, but evolutionary. We are growing the number of drones and loitering munitions. Whether we need a separate drone force, I don't think so. They should be a part of the same setup, and we have to be operating together. These have to be together along with other weapons so that they bring in that effect. We cannot be operating one type of weapon separately somewhere and another type of weapon separately. So we have not thought of having a separate drone force."

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos attempted to trip up Secretary of State Marco Rubio by asking the same question about Venezuela three different times. “What is the legal authority for the United States to be running Venezuela?” And three times, Rubio shut him down. RUBIO: “I explained to you what our goals are and how we’re going to use the leverage to make it happen.” “As far as our legal authority on the quarantine, simple. We have court orders. These are sanctioned boats, and we get orders from courts to go after and seize these sanctions. Is a court not a legal authority?” STEPHANOPOULOS: “Is the United States running Venezuela right now?” RUBIO: “Well, I’ve explained once again, I’ll do it one more time.” “What we are running is the direction this is going to move moving forward, and that is we have leverage.” “This leverage we are using and we intend to use. We started using already. You can see where they are running out of storage capacity. In a few weeks, they’re going to have to start pumping oil, unless they make changes.” “That leverage that we have with the armada of boats that are currently positioned, allow us to seize any sanctioned boats coming into or out of Venezuela loaded with oil or on its way in to pick up oil.” “We can pick and choose which ones we go after. We have court orders for each one.” “That will continue to be in place until the people who have control over the levers of power in that country make changes that are not just in the interest of the people of Venezuela but are in the interest of the United States and the things that we care about.” “The legal authority is the court orders that we have.”

Russian President Putin: "Yes, Western sponsors are supplying a large number of drones of various types, including long-range ones. Some of them, unfortunately for us, are being breaking through. But Russia has a system of air defense. Yes, we must strengthen it, and we will do so, but Ukraine does not have such a system at all. There are just separate elements, but there is no system. There are Patriots, other systems that are being supplied, which are also catastrophically lacking, but there is no system as such. There are no strike systems like those that the Russian Federation has. I mean hypersonic missiles, cruise missiles, and naval, air, and land-based missiles. And there is something else that is the most important. There is patriotism and the will of the Russian people, which is the main condition. We are prepared for the achievement of all the goals and objectives of the special military operation."

#WATCH | Bogotá, Colombia | MP Shashi Tharoor says, "The Indus Waters Treaty was one that was offered by India to Pakistan in the early 1960s in a spirit of goodwill and harmony. In fact, those words occur in the preamble of the treaty; sadly, that goodwill has been repeatedly betrayed by the terrorist actions of the last four decades. Even though we have had terrorism and war inflicted on us, the treaty has remained in place, but this time our government has placed the treaty in abeyance, which means it is in effect suspended. Its operations are suspended until such time as we get satisfactory indication from Pakistan that they're prepared to conduct themselves in that spirit of goodwill that is provided for in the preamble of the treaty. We are very conscious that we have been a generous neighbour when it comes to the operation of the treaty. We are in an upper riparian state. We have given Pakistan very generously the waters that they are entitled to under the treaty, and we have not even used all the waters we are entitled to under the treaty. But the time for acting on the basis of goodwill unilaterally is frankly no longer with us..." Courtesy ANI . Office of Dr Shashi Tharoor Shashi Tharoor

#WATCH | Delhi | Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh says, “This topic of drones and UA systems is very relevant… It is a reality. So, there is no denying that the battlefield has shifted. We are shifting from concentrated Air power to a decentralised and autonomous way. We must understand that the Unmanned Aerial (UA) systems are extensions of Air power… There is also reduced risk in terms of human life during the operation… As I said, it is an extension of Air power, so all the rules of Air power will apply when you use the UA system… When we talk about counter UA systems, it is like a cat-and-mouse game. When you develop technology in one field, the counter technology has to develop along with it because that is how a game can be played… I think we have done reasonably well in Operation Sindoor, and it was possible because there was coordination. Without a central agency coordinating it, it would not have been possible… We have a structure in place so that every time we are able to counter these things… We will have all three services operating in the same Air Space, then there has to be total coordination…”

Zelensky: It is important that airlines using Russian airspace continue to pay attention to the real situation and the real danger. Today, there are new signals from airlines on this, and we confirm that because of Russia’s war, Russian skies have become a space for drones, not civilian aircraft. Drones are a concrete reality, unlike the words of Russian officials who are trying to reassure airlines.

Mafia wants drones like those being used in the Ukraine conflict – Palermo Chief Prosecutor. “We are aware of the Mafia's interest in more sophisticated weapons. For example, those that have emerged on the black market during the Russia-Ukraine war. We have indications of purchases of drone-launched munitions — weapons against which we are unprepared to defend ourselves.” Boomerang effect.

Ndegwa Njiru: We have presided over the funeral of the country and the republic of Kenya. You could see the judicial nonsense that was there. They say Gachagua’s rights were violated, and instead of doing what is constitutionally right, to quash, they avoid. We never came here to seek orders and recommendations for legislation, that is why we are saying the constitution has been buried today. The consequences of finding that the impeachment has been quashed are that Kindiki should have vacated, which is why we are calling it judicial nonsense

The automobile manufacturers, as well as the people who service these vehicles, all say there is no difficulty. Why this sudden interest? We have been using E15 (blend of 15% ethanol and 80% petrol) for the last three and a half years. We have been on E20 (blend of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol) since April of last year. If someone is suggesting E25 (blend of 25% ethanol and 80% petrol), we have made it clear that we are conducting tests. Those tests will take time. Once the reports are available, we will evaluate them. Then we will discuss the findings with the stakeholders and the automobile manufacturers. Putin on the drone incident in Romania: Ms. von der Leyen was not in Romania. She did not examine the remains of this drone. No one can say what the origin of a particular aircraft is until an examination of that aircraft has been carried out. After all, we know that Ukrainian drones have also flown into Finland, Poland, and some of the Baltic countries. The first reaction was exactly the same as it is now in Romania. "Oh no, the Russians are coming, the Russians are attacking." Then, after a short while, it turned out that this had nothing to do with Russian aircraft at all.
