Italian PM Meloni is right. Some things are obvious on their face. The defense of Ukraine, in the face of the moral obscenity of Russian attacks on Ukraine, that also threaten all of Europe, are one of those obvious things.

Leaders in Europe should absolutely embrace Ukraine. They are a strong country filled with people who wish to live in freedom, independence and democracy. Ukraine has turned into a strong leader across the globe because of their resilience and resolve.

Supporting Ukraine is right. That’s the job of the EU and NATO. So is the taking out of Iran’s Islamist nuclear threat to EU and NATO. Why did they ban US use of NATO bases? Now the US can say, ok you can take those bases and support Ukraine yourselves, we’ll deal with Iran ourselves as we have. Reasonable reallocation of NATO resources.

This is either straight up betrayal, or psychological warfare tactics. But it wouldn’t make sense to me for her to literally announcing this because at this point, if she truly is “turning” on the United States, it will not benefit the Italian population or her in any way, and would most likely will lead to the end to her political career.
