WATCH: INDIGENOUS AYTAS ARRESTED FOR PROTESTING 'EXPLOITATIVE' TOURISM Indigenous peoples' rights group Katrubu reported the arrest of indigenous Aytas in Sitio Tarukan, Capas, Tarlac who were peacefully protesting for just compesation amid what they called exploitative tourism ventures in the area. The individuals nabbed by police were released on... the same day, Katribu reports. This development after videos of tourists going to Mt. Pinatubo being blocked by picketing Aytas circulated on social media. Katribu condemns the sudden police arrest of the Aytas seeking compensation and calls on the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples to act in the interest of the distressed Aytas. No Indian Media channel reports this. Activists are protesting the Adani Group over its planned $10B mega-port on Great Nicobar Island. The project threatens ancient rainforests, millions of trees, and the survival of the indigenous Shompen and Nicobarese tribes. From coal mines to mega-ports, communities worldwide are standing up for environmental justice and Indigenous rights.

On this Indigenous Peoples’ Day, I’m grateful for our partnerships with the 12 Tribal Nations and Native Michiganders in being good stewards of this place we call home. Let's honor the vibrant cultures of our indigenous communities and recommit to working for a better future.

In 1992 the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Rigoberta Menchú Tum from Guatemala, in recognition of her work for social justice and ethno-cultural reconciliation based on respect for the rights of indigenous peoples. Like many other countries in South and Central America, Guatemala has experienced great tension between the descendants of European immigrants and the indigenous population. In the 1970s and 1980s, that tension came to a head in the large-scale repression of indigenous peoples. Menchu has come to play an increasingly prominent part as an advocate of indigenous rights. Rigoberta Menchú grew up in poverty, in a family which has undergone the most brutal suppression and persecution. In her social and political work, she has always borne in mind that the long-term objective of the struggle is peace. Today, Rigoberta Menchú stands out as a vivid symbol of peace and reconciliation across ethnic, cultural and social dividing lines, in her own country, on the American continent, and in the world. #NobelPeacePrize

Watch Poilievre "We're going to amend our own motion in order to include the things that Liberals claim we left out." Here is the amendment "That the motion be amended by inserting after the word “including” the word “(i)” and by adding after the words “Indigenous peoples” the following: “(ii) Green lighting the world’s largest carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) project for the purpose of making Alberta oil among the lowest carbon intensity produced barrels of oil in the world.” (iii) providing meaningful opportunity for Indigenous rightsholders to participate in consultation processes and economic opportunities through Indigenous ownership, partnerships and benefits, (iv) engaging with British Columbia immediately in a trilateral discussion on the pipeline project, and during the potential development and construction of the bitumen pipeline referred to in the MOU, and to further the economic interests of B.C. related to their own projects of interest that involve the province of Alberta, including interties, and Canada working with B.C. on other projects of national interest in their jurisdiction” Well played!

Carney: Our country was built on the bedrock of three peoples: Indigenous, French, and British. Long before the battle on these plains, long before the first French ship sailed up the St. Lawrence, Indigenous peoples were the original stewards of this land. They built nations, trading networks, and systems of governance that spanned the entire continent. The Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabe, the Wendat, and the Innu shaped this land and were shaped by it. Then the French came. They built a new society adapted to the realities of North America, shaped by the river and forest, by trade with Indigenous nations, and by the determination to survive and flourish in this land. When the British came, that civilization did not disappear. It endured and now it thrives.

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day. Today we honour and celebrate the cultures, traditions and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. One of the greatest honours of my time in politics was amplifying the voices of the incredible Indigenous people I met. Learning from Elders, hearing stories from Kukums, dancing with deadly aunties, drumming with the unces and spending time with the youth were some of favourite memories. While today is a day of celebration it is also important to reaffirm our collective commitment to continue to fight for justice for the first people of this land.

Indigenous Solidarity: Maori Warriors Stand with Israel "From the River to the Sea, Indigenous Peoples Will Be Free" Jews are the true indigenous people of Israel and where Muslims call "Palestine". This video captures Maori performers unleashing a traditional Haka on the steps of New Zealand's Parliament. Deeper dive: The Maori people, the indigenous Polynesian inhabitants of New Zealand (Aotearoa), have a rich cultural heritage rooted in tribal traditions, including the powerful Haka. This is the ceremonial dance and chant that expresses strength, unity, and defiance. Historically, Maori have faced colonization leading to land loss and cultural suppression, but they've resiliently fought for their rights and sovereignty through treaties like the Treaty of Waitangi. Today, Maori clearly see the parallels between their indigenous struggles and those of the Jewish people, knowing historically and factually Jews as being the original indigenous inhabitants of Israel who are decolonizing their ancient homeland after centuries of exile and oppression. The video is a declaration of solidarity, flipping the anti-Israel chant on its head to affirm divine justice and indigenous rights. The event shown highlights shared values of freedom, resilience, and opposition to terrorism. In a world where misinformation and disinformation paints Israel as a "colonizer," these Maori voices remind us that true decolonization means supporting indigenous peoples reclaiming their lands - from Aotearoa to Judea. A big thanks to the Maori!

LINGUISTIC IMPERIALISM Linguistic imperialism is the process whereby dominant powers impose their language on those they colonise, suppressing indigenous languages and thus marginalising their speakers and sustaining power inequalities. Indigenous languages in colonial Africa were frowned upon, while colonial languages were made mandatory. In Anglophone Africa, policies were all written in English; media and broadcasting used English; and there were many systemic policies forbidding the use of indigenous languages. For example, students in many Kenyan schools were punished for using any other languages, with most of these punishments involving shaming tactics such as the wearing of bones from dead animals as chains around the neck. This also happened to the indigenous people who were forced to speak Arabic and change their names in places like Sudan. This warped the consciousness of individuals, leading to a loss of appreciation for indigenous languages and cultures - and promoted the adoption of the coloniser’s worldview, values, systems and structures. UNESCO's 1953 report, The Use of Vernacular Languages in Education, indicated that around 40% of the global population received education in an unfamiliar language. Sub-Saharan Africa, which is home to nearly 30% of the world’s languages, still uses the colonisers’ languages as national languages. Consequently, the education and values instilled remain those of the colonisers. Many languages are at risk of extinction, with only a few speakers left. The loss of these languages is equivalent to the loss of African heritage and culture.

Hey, Grok. What group is predominantly responsible for the murder of Indigenous women in Canada? Answer: Indigenous men. Maybe instead of crying about a fake genocide and accusing the Canadian gov't, Leah Gazan should call on the FN men to stop killing their own women.
