Identity theft is rife in South Africa and needs to be dealt with urgently, that's the instruction from the chairperson of the Home Affairs Portfolio Committee, Mosa Chabane. The crime has led to the withdrawal of Miss South Africa finalist Chidimma Adetshina from the contest. 🚨WHY I THINK CHIDIMMA WILL WIN THIS CASE Here's the legal twist many people are missing. Even if Home Affairs succeeds in withdrawing Chidimma Adetshina's current citizenship status as things stand because it was linked to her mother's status, immigration lawyers point out that the Citizenship Act may still give her an independent path back to South African citizenship. If she can prove she was born in South Africa, that her birth was properly registered, and that she lived in South Africa until the age of 18, the law may allow her to apply for citizenship regardless of what her parents allegedly did. In other words, the alleged conduct of her parents does not automatically determine her own legal position. That doesn't mean she has already won. It means she may have a legal avenue that Home Affairs and, if necessary, the courts will have to consider. This case could end up becoming one of the most important citizenship rulings in recent South African legal history. ⚖️🇿🇦

An emotional Moroadi Cholota walked free after the Bloemfontein High Court ruled that her extradition to South Africa was unlawful. In a strongly worded judgment, the court found that South African authorities had misled their American counterparts in order to secure her return to face charges alongside Ace Magashule and others. Moreover, Judge Phillip Loubser stated that his court lacks the jurisdiction to prosecute Cholota for the offences with which she has been charged with.

Chidimma Adetshina, 23, quit the pageant in Pretoria following a backlash amid claims she wasn’t South African enough. Even though she was born in the country and eligible to compete, she faced online abuse over her Nigerian father and mother who has Mozambican roots. However, Chidimma’s now competing for the title of Miss Universe Nigeria, after an invite from organisers. She’s representing Taraba State, her father’s region in the country’s north east. It’s been a traumatic few weeks for the 23-year-old who says no one should face the backlash she’s experienced. At the time, she called it ‘Black on Black hate’ but Chidimma believes her ‘powerful story’ can help unite, rather than divide Africans. Well, she certainly has charisma, as you’ll see from this interview in Lagos. If she wins the contest, she’ll represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe Pageant taking place in Mexico in November. Side note putting women in competitions and judging which one looks the best is not something African Stream endorses. We do however endorse Chidimma strength and resilience after everything she has been through and we definitely endorse her message of African unity.
